Similiar in what way? Why don't you just go to the gallery, look at the pics then decide which would look better with your wardrobe?

I have an old 2010 bomber, in the same jacket family as the cwu-45, and a vtg collared moto, so i'll answer.

You are obviously correct in seeing a similarity between the two; they are both collared leather jackets. But they do have a different style from each other. Also somewhat obvious is their literal appearance differences: the Cwu-45 is more military styled, with the banded cuffs and hem, the big pockets on front, and the name tag, and the collared moto is more motorcycle related--meant to be a little shorter on the body, with zip cuffs.

The difference to care about is in the styling of these jackets and how they integrate into your wardrobe. The cwu-45 goes well with streetwear in the "streetwear brand" sense, and raw denim, and can be kind of dressed up too. I can put it on top of many of my dress-up-for-a-client work fits.

the collared moto will be a different style game. Your chinos are gonna be trickier to wear with the CM; it says "dad jacket" unless you're careful with your biz-casual fits. But the cm will go way better than the cwu-45 with more aggressive stuff. Not gonna try to search on this iphone, but see the cm fit that Clark Kent did maybe a year ago, maybe more. It'll be in the gallery somewhere.

So as chv7 said, look at the gallery. You'll get an idea of how each jacket is worn. Pay attention to the vibe of the different outfits you see and see what matches your own vibe.

Quite sad about the CWU being discontinued.  I've been wanting to order one eventually, but I'm in the process of losing weight and working out, so who knows what my measurements will be by winter, with maybe 20 more pounds to lose and who knows what kind of muscle to gain.

oof, I guess its time to throw down for the A2 I keep talking about...

unless the new bombers are going to be even sicker....any chance of a tease on what's to come before the order deadline?

Yeah. satisfied.gif

Would go for a light gray calf suede bcdr in a perfect world where sudden nosebleeds and food accidents never happened... But the zips on my A2 have been lubricated with the grease that dripped out of a box of calzones I took to go, and I darkened the suede on my only pair of gray sneakers with blood. shog[1].gif

If I don't wait it out for the next leather reveals, I'm thinking about the 2013DR in electric blue, navy, or bottle green.

You still get random nose bleeds? You can go to a doctor and have them cauterize it. They seal off the vessels in the nose by burning them. It's painless.

Especially if you learn best through restaurant analogies.

I'm actually a really perverted anime character irl. shog[1].gif

They aren't 'random', but I never see them coming when I should (dry day, allergies, common medical side effects, etc). Thanks for the tip though. satisfied.gif

Hi chv7, that is good advice, outfits are meant to be coordinated. I took a quick look at the gallery, but wanted to hear from others.

Much appreciated for the detailed reply. I wanted to hear from someone who owned both (or something similar), because it is difficult for me to get a feel for how the jacket is, without putting it on (style newbie here). I will go look at the gallery some more.

I've never worn owned a jacket styled like the CWU-45, and I wear casual button-downs most of the time (and t-shirts less often), so would I be mistaken in thinking that the collared moto will be easier for casual/simple outfits (such as t-shirt, denim) since it has less going on, and harder for button-downs/more dressy outfits?

Thanks again for the replies. Will check out the gallery some more. Any advice is much appreciated.

Edit: Maybe the Moto 2011 will be better if I wear button-downs

For someone who primarily wears button downs, get the cwu-45 or a-2.

The dressier you are, the more you should swing towards the CWU or A2.
I have the 2011 A2 and the 2011 CWU and I wear mostly them with white / grey T's everyday, black overdyed denim and Carpe / Guidi / Margiela boots / sidezips / derbies.

I get more complements on my ToJ bombers then anything else, the black lamb is amazing and wears in beautifully. People talk about the quality of the lamb, but the construction is amazing as well - the shoulder gives such a strong silhouette and the stich work is always perfect.

I'm going to order a wool MA-1, but waiting to see what Drew releases for the Anniversary models, will either get a Harrington in suede or order an MA-1 in suede as well as the wool MA-1.

May I get some feedback from the TOJ gurus what jackets look best in the ivory/cream/white and gray colorways? Suede or leather

And it was $1K for a custom jacket, correct? Custom as in a complete different mock up

I do not recommend a collarless leather jacket for wearing with collared shirts.

This is what's up.

Razele, your styling description for your CWU/A2 is surprising; I've thought about outfits like you described and figured they wouldn't work, that the A2 would clash with the vibe of the footware. With that said, my bomber isn't black, and that can make a difference. Too bad it looks like you don't post fit pics.

There's no such thing as a custom, completely different jacket. You can only pick from a select number of options for a particular of jacket. Cost only really varies with leather choice.
