The new official TOJ thread, 2011 - Page 2049

Nope, specifically told Charly I wanted a 40US, from which he recommended a 48.

The entire point of me posting this was to explain why this was not necessarily bad advice for lamb (though I wouldn't want it; I think a half size down in lamb is better), but it absolutely doesn't work for calf.

OK. Your post is a bit confusing since you mention submitting your size 38 measurements.

If you wanted a leather jacket you could wear a sweater under ... that's the sort of thing you should specify when asking for sizing advice. That is a very basically low level of participation required on your part for a made-to-measure jacket.

Were tracking numbers for today sent out yet?

So snarky, but I love it. I find myself thumbing all of brad-t's posts.

To me, the purchasing of three jackets was an enormous gamble. I was pooping my pants over purchasing one jacket and worrying about size. In the end, as all these "dissenters" are saying, I had faith in Charly's abilities. I went to the Temple, prayed, and they delivered.

Gotta agree with this. I told Charly that I wanted a close slim fit, but specified that I wanted enough wiggle room to layer underneath. When buying an MTM leather jacket that's gonna take a few months to arrive, the least you could do is spend the extra effort measuring yourself, and/or a jacket that's a good baseline for the type of fit that you're aiming for.

I honestly don't get what the big fuss is about emailing Charly and getting the right fit. I got my body measured by a tailor because I didn't trust myself or any of my friends since this was going to be one of my bigger investments. I sent that to Charly, he asked for my height and weight, gave him that. He replied back within hours with measurements for my jacket, I checked it against a well fitting jacket of mine and it looked good. I also sent him a picture of someone else's fit pic from the gallery and told him that's how I want it to fit; not too tight, not too loose. He came back with minor adjustments to the measurements, I paid, waited, got what I asked for.

Anyways, enough of the back and forth nonsense. Since we were told tracking numbers were going out today, did anyone order a toj013 and get a #? Waiting on fit pics to see how people sized before I pull the trigger.

I've not received one yet, and I believe my BCDR was meant to be sent out, at least according to Charly last time I asked him.

Arethusa's posts should be deleted. The amount of misinformation here is unbelievable.

Because no one in this thread is really qualified to give sizing advice aside from Charly, and it was going well until you decided to come along and fuck it up.

Because no one else has ever read this thread and gotten the impression that the standard advice was to "size down."

Because no one has ever looked at the size charts, looked at the measurements for a size 50, and not made the connection that it was actually a size 50.

In my orders, Charly has always sent me the jacket measurements he came up with and asked if they sounded all right to me. It's on you to check these against the fit you want. If you knew what you wanted (whatever a 40 is, idk), and knew the measurements couldn't possibly be right, then you should have asked to have the numbers explained or revised. I've only had the sizing talk three times to get measurements for bombers, riders, and raglan jackets. I've always cross checked his suggestions against other stuff I own, and offered feedback to get closer to the fit I wanted. All five of my jackets are exactly what I asked for.

Weird, anecdotal, outside of the norm experiences that usually stem from customer miscommunications/measuring errors, and people attempting to derive/interpret the sizing algorithms are what confuses new customers. Everything you need to know about sizing your jacket is in the measurement guide and the conversation you have with Charly after you've given him your numbers (along with a brief description of the desired fit). I don't know why you think some random poster on the boards is going to have a better answer for people than someone who has experience in sizing hundreds of these jackets.

You bought my ToJ off B&S, so you can post here, but only through me.

QFT. 1000s of jackets worth of experience trumps all armchair tailors.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.
I haven't heard much about the TOJ trousers or oxford- Anyone kop those? What are the thoughts? They both look extremely nice, but its hard to justify when a uniqlo oxford runs $20.
