The new official TOJ thread, 2011 - Page 1672

FWIW I always liked the T-1, I believe there were two iterations? One of the few JC jackets I feel I can pull off immediately

Band collar was another one.

DAMN I need to get on this JC already but I'll wait for the full turn from TOJ to JC.

My fur collar arrived, but I'm being teased by girl on girl snap action frown.gif what to do?

Also to previous poster, the lamb suede is way nicer than the calf suede. nod[1].gif Love my suede harrington.

There's leather glue you can buy to fix it if you're not sure how to sew it up. I often do both biggrin.gif

Most of my Asian friends who can afford TOJ probably hunt for something like Julius, Rick Owens, Gucci, Burberry, shits like that biggrin.gif

Btw, will TOJ have any promotion for the coming holidays shog[1].gif

We send snaps out to anybody who loses them. It's common if they're getting used a lot because the snaps can't always lock in that soft thick leather the same way they do in thin fabric. You just get snaps and take to a cobbler to set, using the already punched hole. Takes 20 seconds.

Figured out the reason - you ordered that collar separate and he probably made one for a 2011 A2, and didn't realize you have a 2010. The snap configurations are a bit different. If the holes line up and all that needs replacing is snaps, then just get the snaps on the collar replaced.

Drew, do you think my tailor could handle adding a new female snap to the middle of a jacket collar + replacing female snaps on a fur collar with male snaps? Or does this warrant finding a specialist? To my untrained eye, sounds kind of complicated.

Worst case I can just continue rocking the jacket w/o fur.biggrin.gif

(wish we could get a closeup of all the detailing that goes on in the front, though - that is what makes this jacket so special redface.gif )

I have the snap though, it's there in the pic ... it just ripped out of the leather and there's a small tear there now. If it's a simple repair, that's good.

I got a usps notice and thought for a brief moment that it might be a surprise toj, but it's probably just a phone charger. shog[1].gif

I also want a jacket with a regular collar now.

Snaps are one-time use only as they are like staples and have splines that flatten (except they flatten outwards rather than inwards, and lock into the snap receiver) as you apply the pressure when setting them. Because they have sharp teeth and there is a central hole they go through, it's natural that sometimes the sharp teeth make a small perforation in the leather as they come out, as you see on your jacket. We will send you new snaps and when they are reset they'll cover that hole and look as normal again.

I think Synthese is now in the rare club of guys who own a number of TOJs in pretty much the gamut of materials we offer - from calf to lamb, to lamb suede. I gotta give Synth his due as he picks some of the best TOJ makeups out there as well. Nothing too crazy, definitely TOJs and he doesn't force the makeups along to make something his own, and he's always put them into outfits so effortlessly. I am keeping a little 'best of' gallery on my own facebook of my favorite TOJ's, I pick them based on both the quality of the photographs and also the fits and the actual TOJ pieces. I have Synth in there like 3 or 4 times now. redface.gif I'm waiting for someone to ask why he appears so frequiently, good thing he blanks out his identity.

Would like to hear Synth's opinion on owning the various materials.

Yes, I guess in the meantime it'd be prudent to point out that you should not pull on those snaps with abandon, or eventually yes, they will succumb to the abuse. Rather than pulling on the collars and stuff from a far point and putting torque on the material that eventually unbeds the snaps, separate the snaps by holding them more directly. We have to send snaps to a couple people a month and I don't mind doing that, but I'm fairly certain the cause of the snap failures is simply that the material is thick, soft, and if you're giving it lateral force and putting movement into the material, it stresses the snaps that are supposed to be receiving vertical force from their location.
