Ideally, there would be an option for a traditional nylon alternative, just like the leathers have the option of calf or lamb based on how they'll be wearing the jacket. I don't doubt that TOJ could double sales by doing this.

Is it just the fact that nylon would be less susceptible to damage than wool? The nylon isn't waterproof, is it?

Resistant. You can reapply the waterproofing with sprays and what not if you want.

I'd guess that would be the main concern. Wool may snag or start to look a bit fuzzy after a lot of wear (and I think many who want the jacket would want to wear it often) and the fuzzy look may clash with the minimalism of the design, etc.

I think it's a really cool idea to put the wool in personally and would love to see one, but then I'm less concerned because it's not a piece that fits in my style, so I'd be just an observer.

I am. No post-order mods and four incorrectly projected ship dates later ...

This post makes me sad. Thinking about cancelling MA-1 altogether. Or making a hitler reacts video.

I think the problem is that a lot of people have been looking for a nice MA-1 that they could wear often. I mean, just by the design of the jacket, its meant to be something you could wear on a daily basis. The premium wool material kind of takes away from that. It definitely makes things more interesting, and I think it'll be done right, but also means that you make have to be more careful with it, or at least that's the impression I'm getting from this high quality wool being used.

Personally, its not a deal breaker for me. But I live in cali where the weather is fairly consistent. I can see why some people might be worried though.

Drew, I like the ma1 and have no complaints smile.gif

If you get tired of hearing about wear and tear of wool perhaps you'd like to check out double faced fabrics. Just a thought.

not sure why a few dissenters would have you thinking to cancel the jacket. there will always be people who can't see the light (and some don't even contribute to the ToJ payroll anyway)
there's some constructive criticism being given regarding the material, but honestly this thing should be just fine as long as you're not doing stupid stuff while wearing it like getting into bar fights or running into thunderstorms without an umbrella

it's wool, not crepe de chine or something. wtf you guys

What I was saying was that there are enough options on the market where you could get an MA-1 that would meet your needs.

He went into this saying he wanted to make an MA-1 with suiting wool. He did it. If he wanted to make something that catered to a wide range of lifestyles and tastes/aesthetics, it would be apparent in the design. This jacket is for the niche looking for something cool and unique, not for the people looking for an everyday beater jacket.

It's kinda like that dude a while back who wanted the bball in black calf or lamb suede, which would have basically transformed it into a black suede varsity. Dudes asking that the suiting wool ma-1 be done in nylon are asking for something completely different from the designers vision. They arent offering constructive criticism, theyre just asking for an alternative.

Have you guys never worn a suit before? They don't exactly fall to bits within a few wears. It's also troubling because I went ahead with the wool that costs exactly 12 times as much as the nylon you guys so want, yet it was going to be a proposition where I added the cost of the material upgrade in flat. This is much like our previous situation with smashwindow and the TOJ v2 shirt. redface.gif

Don't do that, the prototype looked so cool! I was just hypothesizing about reasons people might be worried. I wouldn't take my advice, I don't know anything about MA-1s
