Is the fur collar still offered for the DR? If so, I might get one with mine :D

Been really thinking about the fishtail again. That thing is a Temple of Jawnz masterpiece. It's going to be a collector's item and I would get a lot of use out of it here in Michigan.

Also, if I acquire the fishtail along with an MA-1 or M-65, I will have completed my Holy Trinity of American military outerwear

I owned the fishtail and it honestly is an amazing piece from TOJ. It was bombproof and I was really surprised at how well it blocked wind and kept me warm, too bad this winter wasn't too harsh so I was just in tshirt + fishtail. I recently sold mine since I'll be going back to the west coast

Ok, so I want in. I bought my first leather jacket a little while ago (an armored moto for riding my motorcycle) and knew pretty quick that it would only be a matter of time before I wanted a TOJ. Was thinking it would be later in the year but with the cutoff date looming, I guess I had better get in now (since my shoulders never fit right in stock sizes).

Need some input on what to get though. I used to want the moto, but now I already have a dark brown one for my bike--the fit's not perfect since it has room for armor and extra insulating layers...and the issue with my shoulders, but its close enough that I don't know that I need another moto.
My pick would then probably be the MDR. I like the DR but I think the extra straps and buckles would make the lower torso too busy since I'm not super slim. The MDR seems to take care of that.

Black? Brown? Grey? Black's classic and looks great but I'm not 100% sure I could pull it off. I tend to gravitate towards brown leather goods which might make it hard to fit in a black jacket; but at the same time, its not hard to put together and outfit with a black leather jacket. If someone here who is friends with me on facebook, what color would they go with?

Lamb or Calf? (horse?) I've read the post on lamb vs calf and I know that the lamb is great...but something still draws me to calf that has to really get broken in. Does lamb just start out softer but still break in like calf? Does its stretching lead to it breaking in even better than calf? Is there any of that Italian whiskey calf left?

For Reference: I'm about 6'2, 190lbs, wear about a 33 waist and a 41-42 jacket. Mon-Thurs I'm probably wearing wool pants and a dress shirt/sweater (though probably not when I would be wearing this jacket) with dress shoes/boots. Other times I'm in raw denim or cords/solid colored pants with an OCBD, various sweaters, or maybe just a simple t-shirt (and a few polos in the summer)...kathadin's, DBs, or chucks on my feet.

Sorry for having so many questions!

I'd say black lamb MDR. If you already have a tough calf jacket, you really need to experience the softness and comfort of lambskin.

Black CWU or a brown A-2 could work too

Searched back a bit but can't find the size chart for the BBall...can someone help me out?

Edit - found it on the TOJ website

Edit 2 - Baseball order placed icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

That motorcycle jacket is actually incredibly soft. It says it is 1.4mm cowhide but it is really very soft (although almost a little rough feeling in one direction) so they must have done something to it to tenderize it.

Does black lamb still end up looking broken in and worn into the shape of your body over time?

Not sure I like that kind of collar. I know I have seen some great fits posted here, but I have trouble shaking the image of the old-man in an ill-fitting bomber...especially since I don't have that super slim frame

It doesn't need to be broken in. If sized properly, it fits your body from day 1. It gets weathered and distressed with wear (see below) but I don't think it changes its overall shape that much.

pretty sure all those lines aren't from wear. some of the hides are just veiny-er. the gray leather I had was, and my newest black one isn't at all.

I think part of it is because that jacket was soaked and some of the dye/oils have come out.

although I suppose I do like this fit from furo so maybe I can get past my fears of the old man look with those collars:

Not sure I am feeling that veiny look on the lamb...is that just from soaking or was it a particularly veiny hide to begin with?

absolutely, if I am not mistaking these lines are the characteristic of young hides - I have the same kind of lines on a calf leather that i have
