Or, if you're looking to save some money on design costs, you could just sell a regular jacket with a few cans of compressed air.

Drew, are you planning to offer VTG in whatever future leather styles come or was that a one-off deal for the MDR/CM patterns?

not too many other styles can be made from that leather, I kind of hesitate at the thought of the Moto as it has the smaller band around the neck that needs to be sewn and turned back out flat, which would be an undertaking as that particular piece has not got much side to side room like a collar or waist band.

I'm gonna have Dan look into the possibility of making the Bball again this week, some parts would need to get re-made for that to happen. Last year's with the cow suede came out heavier and more stiff than I had really hoped for, so if I make it again, I am wanting to see if the cow suede can be split down further (possibly giving a smoother hand?) and made lighter, more velveteen. I had wanted movement in that jacket, especially in the midsection where it buttons, but it didn't happen the first time around, it was more structured. Anyway, working on that.

Varsity jacket, still thinking on. I had some crazy ideas but I think I'll keep those in reserve for a new identity I have planned, and keep TOJ's a more classical affair. If it's not a TOJ0, people just complain to no end, it's either complaining about zippers or snaps, that it's not skin tight, people want too many color combinations, etc. It's a hassle to say the least. Imagine trying to make something with an alternative pattern - there'd still be people complaining about the fit. lol.

Drew, I'm going to say that I really like the weight of the bball jacket. Makes it feel like a jacket - and if you're offering new lamb suede stuffs it seems nice to have the fall/winter/early spring option. I haven't noticed any "stiffness" whatsoever, though I think I might be the third owner. Anyway, it's nice to wear a sweater under it on a cold fall day and really feel like you're warm enough. Don't know anything about baseball or its jackets though so maybe that was never the idea.

Don't make it any lighter. The weight adds to the slouchiness and the careless relaxed style, which is what I think most of us like about the bball.
Not to mention the ability to beat it up to Synthese's standards: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

its too thick and rigid for s/s definitely. if it is part of a collection, it is surely in f/w.

btw synth, i only wore it once in front of the mirror. satisfied.gif

This is why I'd prefer the T-1 in calf suede; prefer something more substantial. As dibango said, also want something that I can beat up a bit.

for someones first leather, which one do you like more? black collared moto or black bomber?

A velvety smooth suede baseball and a classic toj varsity - brilliant!! Will definitely be ordering one of each if that's the case.

The thing about material weight is that it's a very grey area really - the thickness/weight of a leather gets proportionally 'thicker' the smaller the size of the jacket, like 44-46. Up in Synthese's size range, like a 50, the jackets tend to be kinda 'normal' whereas the small sizes are just small in all dimensions, yet the ratio between leather weight and vertical/lateral planes is much higher if you can see what I am getting at. It makes for slightly different experiences and this can't really be helped. I don't think it's something that anybody notices and I'm pretty hypersensitive to all sorts of details that you guys don't even need to think about when it comes to these things, but I have to think about them obviously.

The T1 doesn't work in thicker cow suede, it's really heavy. Those pleats in the front make the front panels almost twice as wide as they appear. The cow suede we had was really thick, designs are sensitive to weight changes in the material for sure. A .5-1oz difference shows up, you can feel it with your hands if you have enough experience with the stuff.

Anyway, with the Bball jacket, I was looking for something slightly thinner so that it had a more fluid movement through the middle, so that one could just button a few of those MOP buttons in the middle, wear it as a blouson. With the thicker weight, that didn't happen exactly as I'd hoped. I also felt that in the end, the slightly small MOP buttons were nice but incongruent with the thicker leather - had hoped for a thinner jacket effect to match the buttons.

Thinner cowskin doesn't change the the actual material dudes, it'd be the same thing. Just shaved to a better consistency to work with and drape to create the garment I want to make. I play with different thicknesses of the same leather to make the leather jackets already, it's part of the craft.

I prefer the Bomber. The Collared Moto is really boring me to death, I should take it off the menu. I don't know why people latch onto it as some sort of marker or significant model, I made it to fill a place thinking it'd be for a few people looking for that style, rather than some go-to for the undecided.

not advisable nor even possible without wrecking the jacket, I think.

Good to know, will just let them wear naturally then.

Would love to see the bball return, in the same thickness. Wouldinstakop, wanting to check out ToJ's suede offerings.

Cow suede and lamb suede are two different worlds. I don't know of many who've bought both that could attest, but the lamb suede is very fine, very light. The cow suede is 'suede' as we mostly know it.
