I would buy TOJ footwear. I'm tired of shoes either not fitting, not wide enough, not durable, too ugly, and any combination of these.

I'm a full on supporter of ToJ, and Drew knows this. But I think footwear would be an awful idea. He would have to source a new set of workers to make them. Initially, he would need quite a good amount of money to get the ball rolling. I can already see the emails coming in..."Hey Drew, I wore the shoes for only the 5th time today, and the stitching is coming loose. I want a refund."

A few months back members were brainstorming and threw in potential ideas of suits, shoes, etc. I think Drew declined them all.

Drew has a really good niche going and I think he should just focus on that.

those aren't really problems, and I have doubts that the product would fail in that way. The maker I've selected is a manufacturer for shoes that sell in some of Styleforum's favorite shops.

The problem is that as you can see, everybody wants a different shoe style - and group thinking on styleforum has never led to the next great thing. I am still leaving the floor open because it's interesting to see people bounce their ideas off each other, but don't be sure I'll make it and succeed, or fail with it. It's just discussion for the sake of discussion at this point.

If that is the case, perhaps you can set up a group buy. Just have the individuals vote among themselves on the design they want including the material, last, etc. If the choice is viable to you, you can have the members pay in full in advance. This way you are covered and don't get shafted with paying the difference yourself if someone should back out from the group buy.

a good thing i guess would be a first run of fairly SF shoes. a model the maker is good at, a bit of TOJ juice added and isn't super expensive, lets say $300-400.

i might be nuts, but i have a feeling that TOJ doesn't want to just do rip offs of other designers.. which is what everyone seems to be suggesting. if you want paul smith shoes just buy paul smith shoes?

Sizing footwear over the Internet is a whole new bag of shit, a lot worse than sizing jackets, so I wouldn't expect wonders in that department.

I've got enough experience to say that no, it isn't. You don't have to take my word for it though, just go take a look at the CP thread. Or the baller sneakers thread. Or the Dayton clusterfuck thread...

There are only so many types of shoes... I feel the point is to make the best side zip black ankle boot, longwing, etc. at a given price point of its kind. (Well best for some people at least; can't please everyone.)

As for me, I loved this raf boot. Something like that but less sleek/more rugged, maybe with a side zippper, would be awesome, and fit with the rest of TOJ's offerings imo.
