This makes being an airplane more natural than being a helicopter. See picture (top half). Now I just have to charge my camera and I can enter fit battle.

It fills me with pride to have started such a crucial step in insuring your fit is perfect... Can you helicopter? foo.gif

I promised to shut the hell up about my adventures in VTG treatment...but I can not.
The thirst of the material is uncanny. Now that the previous treatments have sunk in pretty well, I have a problem.
It's raing here like 24/7, so I got pretty wet today.
Water is not a friend of this stuff in its unsaturated form, so more stuff going in.
Next run is going to be Belvoir leather balsam. Excellent beeswax based stuff that penetrates leather very well.
After this application this jacket can no longer be described as white or cream. My test pieces show that wax on oil darkens the leather a good bit.
At this point, I welcome this as I'm already pretty fed up with walking around in white leather.shog[1].gif
Also, weather being what it is, I need to waterproof this thing for sure in order not to ffffuuuu.gif this jacket up.

Be sure not to over-condition or oil it; if it gets wet, the excess will just run out. Mild rain and environmental moisture will not hurt it much.

I soaked the sample jacket about 5 or 6 times in the shower, and dried it naturally - it just kept washing the neatsfoot out. Leather got a little harder in places naturally, but it does spread the oil around even more. That is good. On the not so bright side, it's hard to modulate effects like that, so go easy on it. I don't think I intended for them to go too dark too quickly.
Are you brushing it regularly? I never did that, but I can see that might be like giving the pores a massage.

This is far from being over conditioned yet.
I'd not add any more oil at this point, but wax...yes.
As said, I have taken it veeeeeeeeeeeeery easy with the oil.
Only one thin coat of mink oil applied so far.
Wax balsam is now applied, and this will be the final coat for now.
Yes, I brush it quite a bit now, but do not intend to do that much in that future.
I feel it helps the breaking in process a bit, but I might be wrong here.

Thanks for all the input. Looks like I'm going with the A-2!

Get the bomber. I was one of the advocates of bringing back the fur collar and so I feel bad that I haven't taken the plunge on one. With the addition of the wind flap, re-styled pockets, and collar, its the perfect bomber by a lot. Willy cheescakes recent photo in the wywt thread proves just how fantastic it. Btw, your whole outfit in that shot worked perfectly together and on you, well done.

I hope the bomber is around long enough for me to make some money and pick it up...

I'm sortof curious why the recommendation to go with jeans and a button down/t-shirt is the bomber over a moto, as it seems like most of the moto fit pics are people wearing jeans and either a tee or button down. Any insight?

The most common fit pic with any jacket is a tee/button down with jeans, so I don't really see your point.  But I think both are fine, the moto being a little more fashion forward and the bomber being more conservative

A quick fit pic of my new MDR. Already deciding what to order next!

My point is just that I've seen a couple people say "I wear mostly jeans and button downs/tees, should I go with a moto or a bomber?" and people say things like "Bomber sounds like it would totally fit your style." It seems like a bomber fits pretty much any style, to be sure, but I was just wondering if there's anything beyond it being a safe recommendation that causes that reaction.

Wow, there's a face I haven't seen in a long time.

It's also because of the versatility of the item. With a moto or MDR you can't wear it with dressier shoes or a business casual outfit. The moto and MDR look better with sneakers and beat up/distressed boots.

I fully intend to buy some dressy brown wingtips to wear with my grey lamb mdr, dark black jeans, and blue shirt. DressedBytheInternet foo.gif
