Hey, visiting LA, I was wondering what's a good area for a first timer to stay in? Somewhere in west beverly? Downtown LA?

Any suggestions would be great, I am also looking for a few restaurants in the mid range pricing and one expensive recomendation..

mid range - any cusine roughly 50pp before drinks.

expensive 100-120pp before drinks.

Any other attractions that are must do a or shops that you guys recommend would be great as well.

there are a million of these threads already, but it depends what you want i guess. i'd say downtown or fairfax/3rd area in general for walkable restaurants and entertainment.

a few things i recommend to all newcomers are griffith observatory, the bar at the top of the bonaventure hotel downtown, and MoCa.

downtown has turned a lot, just in the past year, and in surprising ways. not 180 degrees, but building occupancy is way down and a lot of businesses have moved in. better than 2008 or 2009 even.
