No offence, but unless you're 6 years old or weigh fifty pounds you'll have to start drinking dramatically before you cut it out dramatically.

UNless you are an alcoholic, I'd consider having a drink and drinking different. Having a drink is a glass of wine or beer or cocktail with dinner or after work. Drinking is a few to several drinks in one night whether at home, eating out or partying.

Agreed. I typically have a bottle of wine every day and a couple of glasses of bourbon when I'm ready to settle in for the night. If I'm with friends I'll often have 2 bottles of wine or a decent amount of bourbon...I'm very lucky in that I don't ever get hangovers...I do this without ever getting "drunk"

no I agree with that (actually, I think I posted it) but Alter is doing 'an alcohol free month' - which means no cheating...

Yep...I nearly changed it but had the same feeling.

I had a shot of Kahlua in some milk the other day. And a glass of Champagne and a beer on New Years. That is the extent of the alcohol I've consumed in the past... I dunno. Since October, I think. I may dramatically quit drinking soon.

Good luck with this E. Good camouflage at the bar - straight tonic or seltzer. Just don't let anybody share your drink with you.

Good luck, man. It's much tougher out here in Asia to do such a thing, I've been out here on/off for 10 years now and my own drinking just gets heavier and heavier over time. If you can quit smoking in Asia though, you can definitely dial back the booze, the former is definitely harder than the latter, IMO. Something to order if you find yourself at a bar, or feel like 'making' a drink - Diet Lemon, Lime and Bitters - diet cider, lime juice, 6-10 dashes of Angostura bitters. Nice and crisp, and as close to zero calories as you can get without forgoing flavor.

This sounds exactly like my Dad's old drinking routine. He eventually got cirrhosis, and it eventually killed him.

Not to say that will happen to you as some people drink obscene amounts their entire lives and it never catches up, but luck wasn't on his side. Be careful!

Cirrhosis wasn't the actual cause of death but the damage to his liver played a strong role in how he passed.

Pretty good so far. Been around 6 days...and I haven't really had any major difficulty. Been too busy to really think about it so much. On Friday I ended up working super late so skipped after-work drinks with friends. When I eventually got home I had one of those fake beers and that hit the spot. They actually aren't so bad, those Suntory fake beers.

Today we are off to a winter festival, where normally I would have a beer can in hand while wandering around and stop off at a few yatai for a warm sake or two. Let's see how that goes. I will be with the family, including our newborns, so it is better not to drink anyways.

My friends have started taking bets about how long I can last. Have plans to meet up with some of them in the next week or two but I pre-warned them that I won't be boozing... but I expect a few shots to be ordered to tempt me.

Healthwise I haven't noticed much of a difference as yet. I think I need to drop a few kgs before I start getting some energy back. I have been trying to eat a little cleaner in the last week but haven't succeeded too well on that front. Cutting back on the heavy foods is the next battle.
