There is an element of truth here. Cordovan can be 'too shiny and plasticy,' and almost look like a patent leather shoe. For a lot of men who appreciate the subtlety and nuisances of men's clothing, cordovan can come off as too dressy/flashy when worn with a business suit or worn in a causal business environment.

I'm thinking about getting this as my first Cordovan. What do you guys think?

Alden Cordovan Perf Tip Bal Oxford

I'm actually going to pick it up here but whats up this "limited edition"? Its also $20 less than ShoeMart so that's good (unless its two different shoes?).

It's a good choice, no doubt about that.

I agree that cordovan probably looks best on the foot in a casual setting. Now, belts however, I love my cordovan belts

As I think of shell cordovan as more rugged/casual shoes, I like these Aldens better, especially with jeans:

NOTE: The red laces were a mistake.

What is the lowest Alden x BB cordo will go? Best sale of the year takes 'em from $600 to what?

Semi-Annual sales in June and December usually takes it down 30% + 15% (on the first day).

but those sales often exclude cordovan shoes. recently there was a 25% off that wasn't supposed to work, but it did

600 - 30% = 420 - 15% = 357?

Cordovans are usually excluded from the sale so don't count on it. Last xmas sale they were excluded, they were also excluded from the recent F&F sale.

They haven't been doing the kicker in recent years. Instead they've done targeted sales in the week coming up to the full sale date.
