1) But isn't shell supposes to stand even the harshest environments? Even if I was piss drunk 7 nights/week and looing all over my kicks, the tank that are my shells shouldn't be this affected, right? Wasn;t there a guy above talking about sloshing his chuks through marsh pits n ****? 2) hmmm I seem to get a pretty big split between wax and no wax....They made some of mine look great, not so much the darltons.

I may have to try this.......and yes, the darltons are my go to shoe when my boots aren't appropriate. Can anyone help me understand how to combat the existing condition? Also, Its hard for me to believe that its just "water drops" causing this..... :/ thanks,

honestly, I think older shell (ie shoes which have been worn for over 5 years) dry out a bit and are less susceptible to the water droplet thingy. I can tell you for damn sure that any new shell I have had shows the welts when rained or pissed on.

Breaking your heart??? Save heartbreak for the things in life that actually matter - ie - love. They're only shoes. My advice is to put them on and go out into the world and walk around and stop worrying. In a few years they will look like they've had a life and you will will be pleased with that.

this may be true, b/c I only have worn a couple pairs of shell, they are all vintage, and I have never seen droplets

Not true. My vintage Florsheims (15+ years old) show droplets worse than any of my other shell shoes.

Montauk and Crane's,

I appreciate the back and forth on this, I really do. This kind of respectful, rational, experienced opinion is what I use to make my own rational decisions on how to care for stuff I WANT to care for. Use your head and make your own decision at your own risk, but again, I appreciate it.

And yea, I'm **literally** about to have a seizure. Cmon mate, figure of speech. Having said that, I did spend nearly $3+k on shell shoes alone (which im positive many readers will scoff at my microtimerness

) and when unexpected things which look to be damaging occurs, yes it upsets me. Is that far fetched for you, "well-kept" ? lol

So I I'm reading correctly, the bumps are a common occurrence found on moat of not all shell to a certain degree?

Well does it go awY or is there anything I can do to remove?

That would be me. I wear my shell boots in extremely harsh environments. I also maintain them in a very unconventional way as well.

Agreed, it's all about making an informed choice based on a wide variety of information and then choosing the best course of action for your particular needs.

I don't know how to get rid of the bumps but I would suggest stop waxing them so often. Give them lots of brushing before and after each wear and apply a small bit of wax every 15 wears. This is what I remember of the Mac method.

I did the same thing that one of the previous posters did as well. A few months ago I had zero pairs of shell. No I think I have 11 (maybe 10, maybe 12). On several pairs I have the "bumps". They haven't gone away. In fact, the first pair I purchased, Alden PTB's in cigar were worn in a sprinkling rain shortly after I got them. After brushing and brushing, they are still there. If there is a way to address the issue, I haven't been able to find it after searching here and on the internet.

The bolded portion is incorrect. C&J uses a different shade of shell called Dark Cognac, which is indeed lighter than Cigar. On the other hand, my last pair of Darltons was much more chocolate colored than other I've seen.
