Slim fitting "technical" winter jacket/down/fleece/parka/coat

I'm searching for a warm slim-fitting technical/athletic style jacket that I can wear around the city and also on hikes, etc. Preferably something with a waterproof/breathable shell and fleece or synthetic fibre filling -- and machine washable.

I've heard the following brands are slim/slim-ish:
  • Patagonia
  • Arc'teryx
  • Mountain Hardwear
  • Sierra Designs (Canada)

Patagonia is the only brand I've found that actually shows which items are slim fit on their website -- http://www.patagonia.com/us/shop/mens-slim?k=1D-ey Today I tried on a Patagonia labelled "regular fit" (couldn't find a slim to try on in Oakville) and it was slimmer than other jackets like North Face. I also tried on an Arc'teryx that was somewhat slim-ish. I also heard that some snowboard coats are slim but in the stores I looked at this wasn't true.

Advice? I'm in the Toronto area.

Nothing from those brands is stylish.

Maybe Arc'teryx Veilance, but you're sacrificing technical competency then

Looking for fitted, heroin chic wear from down jackets and winter wear is pointless. These jackets are meant to fit a bit larger so that you can layer over a shirt and fleece jacket or sweater.

^^Rubbish. You can have slim fitting technical outerwear that still accommodates layers.

In general, Arcteryx fits slimmer, though it varies based on style a bit. Patagonia varies greatly, but IME is not that slim, though you can sometimes size down depending on your build. Mountain Hardwear is not really a slim fitting brand, though they are more "athletic" in cut than The North Face and some others.

Current snowboard lines are anything but slim. They're absurd (but I'm def not their target).

You should look into Nau and Aether. Def more urban style and slimmer cuts overall, though still technical fabrics and fabrications.

patagonia is more of a fashion brand these days. If you want technical, I'd stick with Arcteryx, it's expensive, but it's high quality.

I have the Space Jacket by Aether. My FAVORITE jacket ever. Fits slim, is pretty warm considering how thin it is, and stylish.

As others have said, definitely check Nau. Their stuff is great. Also, look for Mont Bell if you can find it. It's a JP brand that fits nice and slim, with subdued design. You can also order off their website.

Acronym, Nau, Aether if you want a more "modern" look.

White Mountaineering, TNF Purple Label for a more "classic" outdoor look.

If you are actually going to use this shell for technical hiking or other real outdoor activities, then I wouldn't worry about fashion as much.
