I thought this thread was about reasonably-priced lodgings out by the highway.

That would be the "Best Best Western of All Time"

Unforgiven, Tombstone, and Pale Rider are my favorites.

Agreed 100% on both counts.

Got to be some John Ford and Anthony Mann films if you're talking best Westerns.

Stagecoach
The Searchers
My Darling Clementine
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
The Furies
Winchester '73

I love seeing John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart get all anti-hero.

All excellent choices. Especially fond of Tombstone and Unforgiven.

For what it's worth, The Proposition is probably in my top five.

Kilmer's portrayal of Holliday is excellent. Always a big debate whether he or Victor Mature in My Darling Clementine did a better job. Mature's portrayal is most realistic to the real Holliday.

Another vote for Tombstone, even if its awesomeness relies heavily on Kilmer's Holliday.

"You know, Frederic ******* Chopin."

I look on it as a meta-Western.

Btw, Val's Doc Holiday is one of the most memorable performances of the 90s, IMO.
