Next year try a Frasier Fir. Short, soft needles, and generally not allergenic. Several years ago, we had a Douglas Fir, and I damn near died from allergies.
To the original topic, this year we had three trees (our home was in the local Christmas Tour). Two are gone, as they were dried out, but the big one remains for at least a few more days. It seems you can only relax after New Year's Day, as the visiting, etc. has ended, so why not leave things up to enjoy?
