IMO...if you can wear the 30's w/o a belt and they DONT fall right off your hips (big, but will stay put) -- size down to a 29. If you wore them without a belt and they would fall right off your hips (while walking or something) - size down to a 28. The 30's being "pretty huge" part makes me want to just auto-suggest a 28 though...

the 30's def stay put. i just jumped around in them and they didnt fall. i can still put my (albeit little) fist in the extra waist space though. i guess ill go for the 29.

Yes, as long as you don't want it super tight, a medium would be the right choice. I'm a 36 chest and wear a small and it fits snug (appropriately).

I can't answer that accurately as I've never worn or handled an alternative apparel henley, but I want to just go ahead and say "yes".. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Have worn my navy blue and white henley a ton already this spring (wearing 'white' now - no pun). Have not worn the orange very much though. I want a grey one, just havent gotten around to it..

Hate the henleys and the material so just pick up the alternative apparel for the price unless you can find the W+H on sale. Anxiously awaiting more of the static long sleeves that it looks like they're releasing this upcoming fall, since they're actually wearable as a solid layer.
