Because "best" is such a fucking useless concept in this context.

1. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
2. The Ghost Writer
3. Black Swan
4. Machete
5. True Grit
6. The American
7. Salt
8. Unstoppable
9. Inception
10. Get Him to the Greek



This was a....mediocre year. I love each film in my top five. The bottom five I merely liked.

Have not yet seen:
Carlos
Winter's Bone
Tamara Drewe
I Love You Philip Morris
The Social Network

Favorite non-2010 movie I saw:
Le Magnifique

Inception, Social Network are 1 and 2 for me. For entertainment value, I would toss Kick Ass somewhere on to my list... Oh, and I have finished 2.5 of the three Carlos episodes. It's good. Not one of the best things I have seen all year, but worth the six hours you have to invest in it. I prefer it to the other stuff that I have seen on your list (Ghost Writer, Black Swan, Salt, and Get Him to The Greek). I feel like I need to watch Winter's Bone again. I think I was in the wrong frame of mind to take all from it that I should have. Cue Slim telling us all our tastes are shit. edit - oh and I reserve the right to come back to this thread and change my mind when I remember other things I saw this year...

1. Carlos 2. Red Riding 3. Vahalla Rising 4. Inception 5. Social Network 6. A Prophet 7. Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work 8. Machete 9. Toy Story 3 10. Shutter Island Honorable Mention: Ghost Writer, Enter the Void, Greenberg, The Fighter, Let Me In, White Material I think 2010 was a pretty solid year overall, but it's sort of interesting that the films at the top of my list started out on television.

These two were definitely the best this year:

A single Man
Mr Nobody

But I also liked:

Agora
Chloe
Eat pray love
Avatar

Not many, but I guess that's it. I didn't like neither Inception, nor Social Network.

I hated the Ghost Writer - started off great and descended into a cheesy conspiracy flick. Plus can't really bring myself to applaud child molesters.
