French men's streestyle?

I really like the way a lot of the more fashionable French guys in their 20's dress. The look, at least to my eyes, strikes just the right balance between hipster/alternative and classic/vintage. I haven't done any traveling in France so haven't been able to pin down the specifics of this look, but some themes I've noticed are a sort of unfussy, minimalist aesthetic (generally much more so than the fashionable guys I've seen in New York and Germany), as well as lots of dark colors and excellent fit. Lots of scarves and cardigans too.

Can anyone identify just what else goes into the "French" look, as well as what brands and stores are currenty popular? Picture what a 20-something Parisian studying literature or law would wear during the day, as well as out at night to one of the more fashionable lounges or clubs.

I just got back from Europe and I spent a week in Paris. Honestly, I wasn't overly impressed with the way 20somthings dressed. Peacoats, slim trousers, sneakers more often than not and yes, scarves. Similar to Dutch style but much more put together.

Also heavily influenced by Americana. Up-market versions of American brands like Wrangler, etc. American Apparel still has a niche there, as do the eternal Converses. Back in 2006 when I lived in Paris, it was just Converses during the day w/ a blazer, then nicer shoes at night. Basically what you wear out during the day is more or less convertible to night wear.

Ugh, and don't get me going on "anti-mode," which is somehow still inexplicably popular

Facehunter used to cover more Paris stuff, but I don't even know if the guy is still around?

I'd go up by Rue St Maur or back by the new kid areas by Montmartre and check out what everyone's wearing if you're ever over there. For a jolt of more ghetto street style, stop by the "neuf-trois" or St. Denis for some local flavor... But it's mostly poorly-imitated Black american style (just like their rap music, with the exception of NTM/Diams).
