Is there any hell worse than moving? - Page 3

The innermost circle of hell is moving with expensive art. Watching a bunch of blue-collar mongoloids manhandle my Baldessaris and Grotjahns, praying the works will emerge unscathed at their destination, is pure torture.

I hate plebeians and their casual disregard for my extremely expensive possessions.

Funny, because serious art collectors would actually know of MANY services for moving fine art. There are so many pro moving companies that specialize in this that it isn't funny. Maybe you're the pleb.

Ever try finding said companies in places other than NY or LA? Get back to me on that, broham.

Is there anything worse than moving? Yes. Divorce.

Even hiring pros is hell... gotta love the "...for $10,000 we'll get everything there exactly when you want it. For $1500 you can most of your stuff within a window of 67 days and the movers the truck driver hires when he gets there probably just rolled out of juvy..."

I had a "pro" specialist firm, with everything ensured by Chubb, misplace my shit for 45 days beyond the delivery window on a move once. Turns out they had my stuff on the wrong truck leaving the storage facility, which had "delivered" my items to an address in Utah. This was a firm recommended by the folks at MoMA, albeit a few steps removed (said move took place deep in flyover country, with LA as the ultimate destination).

Even the best can fuck up. I trust no one.

escrow closed on my home back in November but i probably won't be moving in until late Jan. i'm sure a big part of that is avoiding the actual move. it will suck i have no doubt.

Yep. I've been a packrat the better part of the last 10 years. The past 6-7 months, I've been bouncing around the Gulf of Mexico, living in a different state about every day. With every damn thing I cared to own shoved in my vehicle. I'm now selling off every damn thing I don't need on Craigslist.

You get what you pay for with movers. If it worked out well for you that time, that's great, but the number of sob stories I've heard over the years has been ridiculous. I had to move a car across the country and even that was scary - I had to bond with a meth head and promise I'd go to some place called wildwood nj with him when he gets over to the east coast. The reputable places here are booked solid usually on the last 2 or 3 days of the month (or at least they are when I'm calling around).

I also like the fact that it's a good catalyst for decluttering and throwing out a bunch of stuff I should have thrown out years ago. Cleansing experience overall.

If you feel the need for some cleansing/moving therapy let me know. I've got enough therapy to share.

I haven't been online in 3 days because both places have been a huge mess this whole time. If not for all the help from friends and family I would be going totally insane right now.

I should feel really bad for you, but misery loves company and I hate feeling lonely. I've gained a lot of weight in the last week or two due to the stress and from not working out and eating all those pastries and holiday treats people mail to people they don't really like.

Absofuckingloutely! I'm in the process of it myself. The level directly above it in hell is reserved for hunting for real estate. The Chinese should have their prisoners look for rental apartments instead of being tortured with water.
