*sigh*

here we go again.

I have developed a monster crush on you

On a more serious note, I've been thinking about making a trip out to that part of the world at some point; would appreciate advice for great little places to eat etc when the time comes.

How sneaky you are. Everybody should take note, instead of overtly asking someone to coffee, do it under the pretense that want to "find out more".

I can see this blossoming into a beautiful bromance.

My usual MO, tack on a long walk after dinner with no particular destination provided the weather is nice and there's chemistry between myself and my date.

I prefer a candlelight dinner in a fancy restaurant. For me it's still romantic. How about you?

Of course it's romantic. But romance doesn't make it the right thing to do, necessarily. I say this over and over in 'girl' threads, but it's not about the thing to do on a first date generally, as if all first dates with all people are the same. Sure, one can have a fallback, or an option generally for when you have no idea about someone (but if you have no idea about someone, why are you asking them out?) You have to consider your preferences and those of the person with whom you are sharing the experience. Romantic, serious dinner on a first date with someone you've otherwise known for a while, or maybe for someone you know as a friend? Sure, sounds reasonable. For a 'cold' date with someone you barely know? Probably not. Doesn't seem appropriate. Plus the $100+ bill can be an issue. Maybe coffee would be better, or drinks at an excellent cocktail bar. Depends on the situation. ~ H

It seems many of you prefer first dates at night. Here is Ovid's advice.
Quote:
Don't judge a woman by candle-light, it's deceptive. If you really want to know what she's like, look at her by daylight, and when you're sober. It was broad daylight, and under the open sky, that Paris looked upon the three goddesses and said to Venus, "You are lovelier than your two rivals." Night covers a multitude of blemishes and imperfections. At night there is no such thing as an ugly woman! If you want to look at precious stones, or coloured cloth, you take them out into the light of day; and it's by daylight you should judge a woman's face and figure.

Whatever you do, don't be nice. Kindness, politeness are never rewarded by the female of the species - at least not during the initial courtship phase.
