Mercedes E320 or BMW 530: which is best used choide? - Page 2

You should know by now this is a BMW fanboi forum. The poll is therefore meaningless.

As for contributing, I'd say neither. Too much of a potential headache on your hands unless you went w/ some third-party warranty in which case I'd say go big and chose between E55 or M5.

I did get convinced doing the research that the E350 from 2007-2008 is a better car than the pre-facelift versions.

I decided to get neither at this time. I got a 2005 Altima SE-R that I will keep for a year or two and then see about getting an '07 or '08 Mercedes. The V8 is nice (I have driven a 2004 E500) but I don't really need that much power. Thanks for all of your opinions though, it was helpful.

BMW by a mile. Better build quality and better handling.

The E60 is no looker either, though. Both cars are exceedingly popular where I live, and now that the new E-class and new 5er have been out for awhile, the previous generations (before their minor updates) are really beginning to look a bit daggy. The E60 will go down as being one of the ugliest BMW's ever made, with the 02-05'ish 7er first, the 1-series second, the 6-series third, and probably the E60 fourth.

Personally, with $15Kish, I'd wait and find a last-run E39 car, like a 540i M-Sport, with as few miles/best condition I could find - 6 speed (if you want it) a good color combo like black/black or the taupe/black, wide navi, stock condition with the forged M-parallel spoke wheels. 10 years later, that car still looks handsome, not a single line off, even the updated celis lighting looks somewhat contemporary.

i.e something like this, with a few less miles:

This man speaks the truth. Best looking 5'er around and if you get a late, full option version, you'll get all the toys you need. On top of that the 540 has a great engine and reliability is not really that bad. Besides, you can get an E39 for way less than an E60, so you'll keep plenty of money in your pocket for repairs. Mileage doesn't mean much on a well kept E39. At the BMW boards I frequent there are many high mileage examples. 150K is nothing.

^^^+1. E39 remains in my mind the best looking 5.
