Rice terraces. Place is lousy with them, but that's a particularly nice one.

What are some of the best Wijaya-designed (or similar architect) places that are open to the public? He has a ton of projects on his website, so it's hard to figure it out.

Any good ones in Singapore? I'm heading there in January.

Couldn't tell you. But if you're in Sing pop over to Bali for the weekend.

I'm going to Malaysia (Langkawi, Penang, KL) instead.

Maybe we'll do Bali next winter.

Have you been to Malaysia? Excellent hawker food but it is a little boring. Langkawi is nice; KL has it's moments; Penang also a little dull.

No, never been to Southeast Asia other than a few days in Vietnam. Food is my hobby so will be doing that mostly, and also getting a scuba certification in Langkawi.

You'll enjoy the street food then. I would travel back to KL/Sing just to eat.

The gardens in Suzhou, China.

My favorite is the Lion Forest garden with several kilometers of paths woven through the grotto rocks. Like exploring a video game dungeon, in real life. The monks that built it used to get drunk on rice wine and wander through it.

Opus 40 - Saugerties, NY

About one hundred miles from New York City, tucked into a pocket of the Catskills near Saugerties, lies one of the most extraordinary pieces of sculpture ever created by a single man. The work is an immense composition of finely fitted stone, rising in ramps and swirling terraces around pools and trees and fountains out of the rock bed of an abandoned bluestone quarry. It spreads out over more than six acres.

It is the product of more than thirty-seven years of a man's life. His name was Harvey Fite. He worked alone, using his hands and traditional quarryman's tools, to build his masterpiece.
