Prepaid 3G in London/Berlin

Hey,

I'm going off to London and Berlin over the next few days for a short trip, and was wondering if it was possible to buy prepaid 3G SIM cards easily, preferably at the airport? Recommendations for specific carriers welcome!

Thanks.

Hey, I live in London and often travel to central europe I.e. belin, koln and vienna. Yes you can purchase "pay as you go" sim cards with 3G networks if that's what "pre-paid" is. I would recommend 'Orange' as it is available in both Germany and England. I'm not too sure about roaming prices. But the sim cards should be cheap so you can buy one each in both countries maybe ? Ciao.

^ +1 Orange roams well in most of Europe. You should be able to pick up a free sim at an Orange shop then get set up to top it off on line with a credit card. As long as you have an unlocked GSM phone you're good to go.

buy one in each country. the roaming charges are exhorbitant. (if you didnt care, you wouldve used your own service).

there are tons in the uk, o2, vodafone, orange, tmobile, etc etc

Advantage of having one number is so people can reach you. Texting is pretty cheap even on roaming, stick to that. I used to do the one SIM for every country, got to be too much of a pain in the ass. Now I roam with my AT&T Blackberry, sign up for their international voice text & data plans before I leave & keep voice to an absolute minimum while I'm out of the country.

In Germany, stick with either Vodafone or T-Mobile, they have the best networks in terms of 3G coverage. If you'll stay in central Berlin, however, the two other networks from O2 and E-Plus will probably be ok as well.
