not really against, its just that i only want weight up top really. Any extra weight waist down will grow me out of all my trousers, whereas weight on top will just fill out my clothes a bit better. Im only looking to gain about 20lb, which i want mostly to be chest, arms and shoulders.

Second, start eating more than you are now. About 4-500 calories more per day. It should not be hard to gain weight at 140lbs. If you think it's hard now, you're going to struggle if your goal is to reach 200lbs, or anything close to it.

Buy a good whey protein powder (Optimum Nutrition 100% whey) and mix it with milk, peanut butter, and a tablespoon of olive oil. You can get 1000 calories out of a shake pretty easily.

solid advice, thanks.

Your trousers should still fit if you put some weight on in your legs. People seem to think doing dead lifts will make your legs explode and become massive. I can still fit my Petite standards I bought in February and my dead lift has tripled since then, legs are just a bit harder and more toned, if anything they're a bit loose around the waste now.

Just keep upping the cals patiently, lift heavy as mentioned and don't worry about your trousers - nobody grows monster wheels fast. Remember, the barbell is your friend.

Check progress weekly, tops - fluctuations in hydration and bowel contents can make daily weighing seem like a nuisance.

Here's what I did a year ago to put on weight.... go to Costco or Sam's Club, whatever. Buy the biggest fucking package of nuts you can find. Peanuts, walnuts, almonds, pistachios... whatever you like. Actually, buy two or three. Then in addition to your current diet, eat a cup of those nuts every day. Every single fucking day. It doesn't matter when or how. Just eat a cup of nuts between the time you wake up and the time you go to bed. It's not a lot of extra eating since nuts are some of the most calorie dense foods out there, so you won't feel bloated or stuffed or uncomfortable. Plus, nuts have lots of vitamins and minerals, good amount of protein and fiber.

You want to look like a lightbulb? 20 lbs in upper body is a shitload especially at your current size, you'll look stupid with no lower body mass increases. Really not a good look, and women like the decent ass and legs that come from doing a full body routine.

And callouses from heavy deadlifts They love those.

I'd give you a hint for one possible reason but Matt said in transmod that we're to be nicer and less crude.

This. My legs did not grow enough to become a fit issue until my squat was consistently into the 300's and buying pants wasn't a problem until it was in the 400's for reps. Report back when you get there OP.

I was in your situation once and filled out nicely once I got a bit older. I promise you the weight will come as it's pretty rare to see 40 year old men who are 6 ft. 140 lbs. I'll let you in on a little secret: the voluptuous 18 year old cheerleader is normally a pig when you see her at 30; the muscle-bound 18 year old linebacker is normally overweight (and bald) when he's 30.

Eat smart, don't consume crap to put weight on quickly. Work out smart: deadlift, squat, pull-ups, cleans, etc. Be smart about your cardio - you are naturally thin and don't need to run 5 miles a day. Run intervals/sprints and stay lean without eating up any muscle you may have.

When you are in your 30's and 40's and you're filled in a bit, yet don't have to diet constantly - you'll be a happy bastard.

dam straight that's what i ve been saying. im essentially 40 now and im at my target weight of 165 and NONE of my friends and people i know my age or even younger are fitter than me. no one. their ladies are all over me. of course it is all tongue in cheek, but still. im sure there's a little truth in their heart about it inside wishing their husbands looked like me.

+1 even if "mostly" only means half that. Aesthetics aside, I'd further worry that the OP will hurt himself in the long-run with muscle imbalance induced postural problems by having such drastic and isolated expectations of his body.

My physical therapist said guys in gyms are 75% of her business.
