Help with "street" boots - Page 2

What is it, like 1.5 in?

The Chippewas say 1.5"; the Fryes say 2". They look the same to me, which probably means the Chippewas are measured externally while the Fryes are effective measurement. 1.5" total I'm fine with, but at 2", it just seems like too much. I don't know, maybe I'd feel different if I tried them on.

No, 2 is pretty extreme. It's getting close to that awful 'Cuban Heel' look.

Yes, 2" IS pretty extreme. Years ago I had a pair of Frye Campus boots (w/ 2" heels). My friend told me I walked like a 'grandmother' in them and I fell down a flight of stairs in the middle of a restaurant all on the same night . I tried wearing them a couple times after that, but felt like a girl who can't walk in her heels.

Huh. I really haven't even thought much about this I guess. I own a pair of Frye engineer boots and they are my favorite pair of boots. Just awesome and so damn comfortable. On the website it says they are 2" heels, now I'm gonna have to measure them when I get home. I guess it does take a little practice to walk in them without walking like a "grandmother." I also think they look nothing like that horrible cuban heel.

Yes, you keep mentioning that, but it's nothing unusual. If you wore them, you'd get used to it in a day or so.

1.5" heel. Your foot is raised another .5" by whatever is between the top of the heel and your sock (insole, etc.).

Various things:

You don't want the black CT chelseas as they are made of plasticky corrected grain leather.

The brown ones are probably still too dressy for an outfit like you described. Maybe if you beat the bejesus out of them first, and added the rubber Topys to them. But they are still somewhat... elegant and don't look too great IMO with wider jeans. They look better with my APCNS than my Uniqlos.

The waxy Loake chelseas might be a better option, or suede or something.

But what you should really get for this sort of use, IMO, is a pair of Tricker's tan or brown brogue boots with Dainite soles. Barring that, check out the Frye Brando boots and the other ones in the same brown leather. Black boots with jeans... eh. I have some Red Wing engineer boots and I never wear them anymore. It's a bit too Village Peopley for me. (Esp. with my moto jacket, etc.)

The Grenson Ilkley is rather heftier with a full commando sole, maybe a better choice than the Tricker's.

Good call. There are Tricker's models with a full lug sole as well, I hadn't thought of that.

I still can't decide between the C.T. jodhpurs and the brown waxed chelseas for casual, semi-dressy boots. I wish Trickers were cheaper...

The jodhpurs are pretty sweet. I guess it depends what you wear them with, you know, women's jeans?

I want to pick up this par of Red Wing 1909 for casual and light winter wear. I've never really own this type of boots before. The closest thing I have to them is a pair of CT chelsea boots. What do you think?
