Help with "street" boots

I need a new pair of boots for when the weather's too wet for Chucks. I like Frye harness boots but I think, combined with my cuffed RRDS and tattoos, that they may be a bit much - the cumulative effect seems a bit ""

What I'm looking for is a nice boot that I can wear with my usual fall and winter outfits - cuffed dark jeans, t-shirt with possible layers, and track jacket/hoodie/chore coat.

I have Doc Martens, and I want something with a different profile, maybe slimmer. I wear a lot of black, charcoal, gray, and white, and I'm not sure whether to go with black or oxblood.

Chelsea boots are a possibility. I've never owned a pair of chelseas, and I'm not sure if a pair of rubber-soled slim chelseas either exists, or would be appropriate for the kind of outfit I described.

Anyway, I'm just looking for ideas here. Thanks for any input.

Rubber soled chelseas exist, but I've yet to see any that were both well made and affordable. And I've certainly seen no rubber soled equivalent of the CT chelseas.

I think it'd be cheap and effective to get rubber sole coverings added on at any cobbler on a pair of CT chelseas. I'm considering doing just that.

I'm looking at the CT chelseas now, and they look very nice, maybe what I'm looking for ... does anyone know the difference between the "G Fit" and other models? Do you think these will look all right with jeans, t-shirt, and a track jacket or hoody? My worry is that the boots will "outdress" the rest of the outfit. I'm not wed to the idea of rubber soles, just thought they might look more appropriate.

I believe the G fit is for wider feet, but I'm not certain.

What's the limit for spending? I would have just said Aldens with a commando sole if money isn't an issue.

I'd like to come in around $200 or so, but that's not a firm limit. I'm willing to spend more on boots than on most other wardrobe items.

What model Alden are you thinking of? I didn't think they made a chelsea.

I might just end up going with the black Frye harness boots. If the worst thing that happens is that I look too "" then I guess I can live with it.

No way! It's a badass look. Embrace your inner rockstar.

But, a couple of the new varvatos boots look very cool and might work, or check out some chippewas perhaps...pretty underrated and there's a couple that look really good with jeans.

I'd never even heard of Chippewas ... I just found this pair that I really like:

And as an added bonus: "Full grain leather meets the wear of the road with rebellious strength." That's like Engrish or something.

I think I like the style of the Chippewas better than the Fryes I was looking at:

No chelsea models that I know of.

However I think Trickers made chelsea with a dainite/vibram sole, might want to look into that.

Those engineer Chips look rocking...I'd go with those...the toe of the frye bugs me a little...

Am I the only one who doesn't like the height of the heel on the Chippewa and Frye engineer boots? It's the main thing that keeps me from seriously thinking about getting them, because aside from that, I think they kick ass.
