I'm actually a graphic designer (currently looking for a job in New York). I made the drawing with Adobe Illustrator.

It looks different than mine. Who made it? I'll have to get one.

That's a complicated layering job. Tutorial?

For something that complex it just takes a lot of trial and error. Basically, first I had to sketch out the pattern on paper. In Illustrator I make the weft and warp separately. I cut and paste separate sections of the yarns to place them on top or underneath other yarns. Layers aren't effective since each yarn weaves in and out. I made all yarns as a 12 pt stroke, and then I outlined the stroke. Stroke outlines were cut off at the ends so the yarns appear continuous on the repeats of the pattern, and it also involves that the yarns extend further than the pattern repeat so they overlap a little. The pattern (see below) is then tiled. If you want to do this yourself, I'm better at answering more specific questions.

We could have used him earlier today when we were making diagrams of our new silver cuff links. But he would probably more enjoy working for a large design department like Ralph Lauren's. Matt have you sent Ralph your portfolio yet? Back to grenadines - we love working with grenadine silk and the grenadine garza grossa has been our favorite version and possibly will continue to be. With that said the New Year is around the corner and perhaps it is time to expand our grenadine horizons with a couple of dozen new ones? Actually, we already have a couple of dozen new pin dot and stripe designs in the works, so if we added the grenadine Garza Finas that I am thinking of it will closer to 4 dozen new grenadines. The only reference I have ever heard to English grenadines is the "mock grenadine" which is woven in England and is not a true grenadine. The theory that I have heard of the origin of the grenadine weave is that it came from the Gaza area of the Middle East - but I am not sure. I will research this later. Here is a closeup of a Grenadine Garza Grossa:

And here is a close up of a Grenadine Garza Fina:

Are you confusing them with knit ties? Grenadine ties are formal woven ties, not casual country ties like the knit ties. Grenadine ties can be worn effectively with the most formal of suits, and the black grenadine is a classic for attending funerals.

Call Paul Winston at chipp2.com. Good ties at a great price.

Saks has Spano badged Drake's grendines on sale in navy, petrol blue, black and bottle green. They are extremely sweet.

I was not aware of that. I have only worn mine on Fridays, thinking the more open weave looked more casual. I like my grenadines a lot, so I am happy to know I can also wear them on more formal occasions.

The weave may be open but the tie itself is not, since it is lined. That's one big difference between the grenadine and knit ties.

It's hard to tell from the different pictures, but does your grenadine look like this one: http://henleyandsloane.com/store/tie...abdb733eefa013 I believe this is the "mock grenadine" woven in England that David Hober mentioned. I've seen this same tie fabric sold by Paul Stuart, Robert Talbott, Ben Silver and Ike Behar. If you could post a high resolution image of this tie I'd be truly grateful.

I have several NWT Chipp fine-weave grenadines that I'm looking to sell for $38 shipped. I've decided that I'm not a fan of the finer-weave grenadine.
