I don't think so. That's why movies are movies and life is life.

The courtesy of the +1 is that a wedding is a romantic and special occasion for which a host would be very rude to invite you while requiring your GF/SO/Partner/Companion to stay at home. The +1 is predicated on the additional person being romantically (or perhaps merely legally in some marriages, but that's hardly the point) involved with you. Since this is the universally understood point of the +1, that is why everyone will presume that you and your, erm, friend are romantically involved. ~ H

Go alone or don't go at all.

found myself tagging along with some friends in an out of town trip few years back. they were there to go to a wedding and they asked me to tag along with the expressed understanding that I'm not going to attend the wedding nor the party after. worked out pretty well fwiw. of course it was no wedding crashers event for us.

Yeah. Asked the groom and he said no strangers (apart from a proper date date)

I don't think you need a wingman because the groom can introduce you to single female wedding guests.

Yeah thought the same. Really don't want to drive the 2 hours to middle of fucking no where the day after NYE. Hotel rooms are $60-69 a night with free buffet so it ain't all bad.
