Toronto or Vancouver? Where should I live? - Page 3

Honestly, if you like Calgary, Toronto is like Calgary on steroids. You could even say Calgary tries really hard to be Toronto Jr. I know this because I'm also from Alberta and currently living in Toronto. I just find Vancouver's vibe isn't as comfortable to me as Toronto's, but both are interesting cities. Vancouver is definitely more aesthetically pleasing, as well.

...but

On an unrelated note, Intrawest has to subsidize accommodation for it's Whistler staff so they can live in Whistler proper. Whistler, Squamish, and Pemberton have become too expensive to live.

How soon will Van be this way.

I think the same thing everytime I visit NY city. How do normal people (i.e., not Wall Street) people live in Manhattan. They're not all bridge and tunnel.

Let's be clear, I'd love to have bought in Van. back in '86 when Expo Ernie and New York Seltzer where the shit. But I was 10 fucking years old. After '86 prices went apeshit (not including the leaky condo crisis in 1990 - 1993). If you got yours, good for you. If not, you're fucked. Accept it and move on.

I have...

...but Christ do I miss Kits beach in November when it's deserted and it feels like your own private lakeshore paradise.

And the puss at RZ and Kitsilano Workout...the puss...it haunts me still...

I lived at UBC for two years and they were phenomenal. White Rock is pretty nice if you're into the small-community vibe (but it's still only 45 min to the downtown core).

yeah, the housing situation here (van) is tough. If you are serious about buying a house in the next few years then TO is probably the way to go. buying into any decent inner city neighbourhood (basically the ones already mentioned, though i would add north van to the list as well) is over a mil. 750k will get you a fifties bungalow in burnaby and a 30-45 minute commute dt on a good day.

I lived in Kwakiutl House in Totem Park for two years back in 94-96 and it was amazing.

<sigh>

How many hours did I spend at the Pit or the Gallery...

And the puss...did I mention the puss...

I picked the westcoast over Toronto 15 years ago and have never regretted it for a second.

750k will also get you a 1500-1800sqft townhouse in Fairview with 2 parking spots, deck, and partial ocean views. 750k can also get you a beautiful loft in Crosstown.

Yes, the housing situation sucks, but it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

this is a big decision. why dont you spend some time in each city, talk to the pepole in each office and decide for yourself. strangers on a forum shouldnot be deciding this for you.

Thought you hated toronto? Is your proximity to me finally increasing its appeal?

She's right on this point. Calgary does feel like a smaller Toronto.

Toronto in a second. I have been on the West Coast for less then a year, and I miss Ontario almost everyday. It's most likely because I'm stuck on the island most of the time though. The Vibe on the West coast is very different from Alberta and Ontario.

tomgirl mentioned calgary is like a mini toronto, well Toronto is like a mini NY.
if i had a choice i would move to montreal.
did i mention the moron drivers?
