Suit Jacket Lapel Collar

I had a suit altered (36R) by my tailor. He's a very experienced and fairly capable tailor (I DON'T go to Dry Cleaner seamstresses to get my clothes altered), but when I allowed him to measure me, I tended to stand up too stiff and straight, rather than straight, but still a bit relaxed. I tend to have reallly bad posture, so I tried to make up for it.....maybe a little too much.

Anyway, here are the problems (sorry, no pictures available):

1. Mostly on the left side of the back of my neck, the jacket collar sits away a little too much from my shirt collar, creating a bit of a gape.

2. The right lapel opening gapes away a bit from the front of the shirt when the top button of the jacket is buttoned.

Basically, the jacket collar and lapel do not lay completely flat against my neck and chest in two areas.

Is there a chance that these flaws may be corrected by my tailor? Is this a common problem that some people have that can be fixed or is it completely hopeless and I should just trash the suit?

He's pretty capable, and I believe that the fault is mine for not standing in a more relaxed position when being measured. I'm sick of constantly tugging at my suit jacket to get it to lay correctly and I don't really want to throw the suit away because my size is already hard enough to find and I don't want to start all over again.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, useful info for everyone: NEVER EVER correct you posture when getting measured. Your suit should fit you as you normally stand.

DO NOT stand at attention.

Oh and by the way: a good tailor will fidget and pretend until he sees you return to your normal stance. And only then will he note the size.

Whenever I am being measured I never stand in front of a mirror. Seeing my posture in a mirror makes me subconsciously correct it. Face away from the mirror.

The suit jacket's arms were lengthened.....he did a pretty good job there.

The suit jacket was obviously taken in some to fit my more narrow frame and tapered at the sides a bit. That's pretty much it. The shoulders fit perfect, so most of the alterations were pretty standard for a suit jacket. The suit collar and lapel are not quite right, but not a major disaster either, so it seems. I'm a very, very hard size, but I'm used to buying suits. I took my time to find a good local tailor in my area, but I can't be sure the problem can get fixed or not, regardless of how good this guy is.

Hopefully, he can do something to correct the flaw.

I'll see what I can do about posting up pics when I can. It's actually not a bad looking suit.
