Thoughts on these? Anybody have one and can provide real world experiences?

Among cars that look like a Subaru Forester, the Subaru Forester would be faster, get better mileage, and be more practical. I've driven a GLK and came away pretty singularly unimpressed. And I say this as a huge Mercedes fan.

I don't think it's really meant to be an SUV. I think of it more as a utility wagon.

I like MB, but not this one.

I drove one when my GL was in for service. Avoid. Also, we did major comparisons for the wife just this summer. In that class, the Audi Q5 followed by the Volvo XC60 are the clear winners. The only bad thing about the Audi, and why we went up a class to the ML Merc for her, was that Audi's residuals are atrocious. Low 40s on a 36 month, 12k/year lease. MB was nearly 60 on a 15k/year ML.

EDIT - removed insult at juvenility of the comment. Otherwise, it is a pleasantly competent CUV, pretty nice, not bad at all and better as an SUV than an X3 which just doesn't work as the "sporty" choice.

Except the new X3 has the N55 engine and will eat this shit for lunch

+1, the new X3 x-Drive 35i looks decent and will be quick as hell - something like 5.6 seconds 0-60? That is old 540i with the 6MT kind of speed.

I've commonly heard that the X3 is just for people who can't afford the X5. Also its pretty ugly.

Anyone who buys an SUV to do stoplight racing is an idiot.

How else do you propose soccer moms ferry >3 kids, a couple of dogs and a ton of groceries around?

^ When Americans give up the fight of trying buy all the oil in the world at the group buy rate and low-wage workers accept that they can work and not expect to receive insurance and pension from every single job they have, then Americans will get to enjoy smaller, sportier cars that their newly slimmed down asses fit into; and those tons of groceries/purchases will get delivered to their doorstep by the store's delivery truck for a nominal charge. It's nice not having to live in 1955, don't be afraid guys.
