Denim jeans - if/when to hem?

Any thoughts on hemming jeans that are a couple of inches too long, or do they look better simply rolled up at the hem?

Some designer denim is only produced with a 34" length; as they assume that you will be purchasing it at boutiques that will provide hemming for you. At least, this is what I have been told by some local boutique owners. Perhaps they were only referring to their stock.

My rule for rolling up jeans is pretty simple: you shouldn't have to roll them up. They should be the correct length unrolled, and only rolled up an inch or inch and a half if you want to show some ankle or your socks. It seems to be in vogue at the moment.

In my opinion, having a massive 4" cuff at the bottom of your jeans looks ridiculous. But that's just me...

Yes, was gonna say the same - stacking. Check this thread and post if necessary.

You could have asked this in the small questions thread. And are the jeans raw? If they are I wouldn't hem them until you washed them. I lost about 2 inches on my N&F after a hot wash and 10 minutes in the dryer.

Stacking:

See the way those jeans are all bunched up in the legs?

It's a personal preference thing. Some people love stacking. I hate it. It's definitely a more urban style, for lack of a better word.

^ There are various degrees of stacking, too. I like stacking, but the above is too much for me. Just like what people have said, it's all a personal preference.

That is an example of bad stacking, yes.

Whenever I see stacking, it never fails to remind me of 80's leg warmers:

On girls, it's fine. On guys, it looks retarded (IMHO).

Have them hemmed to the correct length. Or minimal cuff.
