Joffrey, Ramsay, Tywin, Viserys, Sweet Robin, Walder Frey - those characters just try to one-up each other on how much they can make you hate them. Besides Cersei the only character who tries to be both loathsome and somewhat sympathetic is Sandor Clegane (that I can readily think of)

You're under-thinking this a little. Every character on the show is loathesome, and most of them are sympathetic, too, which is why I think you've forgotten all the bad stuff they've done.

Tyrion killed his own father while he was on the toilet, then strangled his girlfriend. Tywin's mean, but it's because he's got daddy issues too. Theon -- obvious. Arya and Dany seem to enjoy killing people as much as Ramsey does. Even Robb Stark kept fighting long after it became pointless, leading to immense death and suffering.

Or, as a great example, all the people with short memories cheered when the Tyrell lady told off Cersei a couple episodes back. "You're the worst person I've ever met [because you moved against us after we murdered your son.]"

Somebody needs to put together a master list of all the major characters broken down by their alignment, D&D style.

Ned Stark - Lawful Good
Varys - Lawful Neutral
Ramsay Bolton - Chaotic Evil
Cersei - Lawful Evil
Lord Mormont - True Neutral
etc...

Ned Stark disobyed Robert's command and outed Joffrey as bastard, lied about Dayne death
i'd say he's Neutral Good

Nah, definitely lawful good.

The lies dating back to the Tower of Joy have weighed heavily upon Ned. A lawful good character may still occasionally break from their alignment though it may stir up internal (or external) struggle.

And outing Joffrey as not a true heir? Well...that seems pretty lawful good. Can't really sit on that information and let an evil bastard rule.

I regret inadvertently steering the conversation in this direction. Can we get back to tits?

Regarding Ned lying about the death of Dayne, I don't recall him saying that he actually killed him in combat. I believe the passage from ADOD is:
Quote:
“The finest knight I ever saw was Ser Arthur Dayne, who fought with a blade called Dawn, forged from the heart of a fallen star. They called him the Sword of the Morning, and he would have killed me but for Howland Reed.” Father had gotten sad then, and he would say no more.

More of an omission and since Reed never comes around to talk about the battle, we are just left to imagine that Ned killed him after maybe Reed distracted him or something.

Bran says he'd heard the story about his father beating Dayne many times, but he didn't say who from.

IIRC the northerners talked it up because they were proud that their young lord slew the greatest knight in the realm.

Ned never spoke of it.
