Was there any reason to think Hodor was even holding that door voluntarily--wasn't he still being mind controlled? It's pretty awful, if you think about it. He comes back to himself a few moments before succumbing to his wounds. Like waking up in bed after someone stabbed you through the heart...
He already knew he would die there, because he saw it all as a kid which traumatized him to become Hodor in the first place. So Hodor had his whole life fucked up life because of Bran.
I don't think he knew he would die.
Bran accidentally warging young Hodor caused that traumatic seizure which left him brain damaged for life.
I think old fart was up to something, he had it coming
i think experiencing a vision of young Hodor and warging at the same time into Hodor is what caused the seizure. I don't think he warged into young Hodor by accident. But you might be right that Hodor could have had no idea how he would die.
Will this mean Coldhands will be making an appearance in the show?
(Though I know he was supposed to help them get to the tree instead of escaping from it)
Coldhands ain't Benjen. Leaf states that CH "has been dead for a long time." Since CoTF live for hundreds of years, I think it's safe to say CH has been dead for longer than the average human lifespan.
I bet Benjen is alive but was "marked" by the white walkers. They want him to return to the wall, thus breaking its spell the same way Bran broke the spell protecting the cave.
would make sense, I think it will be Benjen who saves them but i doubt he would be marked because;
-how could get so close to white walker and live to tell about it
-how could he know it would break the spell, it's not common knowledge and he was just a ranger not a seer/meister
