lol, thanks!
of all the assessments so far, i agree with this one. also, if he had hot daughters, like was brought out for edmure, why didnt he just show them to rob at the get go and avoid all this mess.

Probably because he didn't think Rob would betray him over looks. Even if he did, Rob was apparently in love so he would've acted the same way anyway.

Robb didn't see the daughters when Catelyn agreed to the marriage pact. She didn't either. Robb was promised a pick from something like six eligible daughters and granddaughters of the appropriate age. He would get to make the pick when he returned from the war. And Arya would be married to one of the sons or grandsons when she came of age.

robb was clearly barely agreeable. if he had a hot piece of ass in waiting, he never would have fallen for new chick.

Just because a political marriage proposal involves a "hot piece of ass" does not mean the groom will not fall for someone else. Robert was a whore monger and Cercei was quite stunning in her younger days as one small example. The heart (and the dick) goes where it will.

Robb's marriage in the show was stupid and childish and basically unforgiveable. Robb's marriage in the book might have been stupid maybe a little childish, but it was for a reason that, in the context of the world in which Robb lives, entirely understandable and noble. In any case, it had nothing to do with not wanting to marry a Frey.

In the book he hooked up pretty much out of grief and is a lot younger than he is in the show.

+1. It was discussed here when it happened, but they really changed the tone of that decision in the show and I'm not sure it worked. Robb is supposed to be all about a young man's sense of living up to his father's honor, and they have him willfully throw the marriage contract out for a hot piece. In the book, they just sorta ended up banging and he married her out of honor. Big difference.

Also, Robb would have had his choice of Frey girls, unlike the second time around with his uncle. He wouldn't have had to settle for an ugly one.

that is all good and well. im just saying, they freys were not making it any easier for themselves by leading him to believe he would be stuck with a nasty wife.

They didn't exactly need the help. It was the Starks. The Frey's would've had the leverage to dictate the terms ("agree to marry whichever daughter I pick or **** off and good luck"). Nope just another Stark ****-up (not to say the Frey's response made perfect sense).
