Stannis had much better weapons and armor, superior organization, mounted horsemen, and the element of surprise. The Wildlings wouldn't have fared well.

Manse's army isn't an army. They don't have any organization of their ranks, they are all on foot. And, of the 100k, probably 25k are younger men. The rest are women, old men, and children. It's 100k Wildlings, with all of their possessions, feed animals, etc. They don't have armor and their weapons are whatever they could scavenge from the Night's Watch dead, plus wooden spears and rocks.

Stannis has castle steel and a few hundred armored knights to go with a couple thousand well provisioned and trained foot soldiers. Just the horse lines going through and slaughtering the Free Folk a few times is enough to break them and send them running in all directions. It was a little silly that Stannis' men didn't use lances at first, but what can you do. Against unmounted opponents running them through with a lance is most effective; that and riding them down. But, hey, swords look cool on screen.

Great episode, but it was missing some key character stuff. And, that sure didn't look like Blood Raven. Plus, Jojen knows when he's going to die, and it's not today. Maybe as soup, but not today.

my thoughts exactly

Not happy at all with their Bloodraven/Brynden Rivers. They gave him two eyes (and they are not even red). You'd think since they slipped in the 'thousand eyes and one' line they'd remember he lost an eye to Bittersteel...

I can understand leaving out Tysha as she was rarely mentioned in the show and I imagine many viewers would be asking, "Who?"
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
As for not telling Jaime about Cersei and Lancel, that one does seem a bit problematic because doesn't that play into why Jaime doesn't rush back to rescue Cersei when she is imprisoned in the Sept of Baelor?

He only protected her to get paid and she wanted him dead the whole time. She didn't get to "kill" him herself and he reminded her of why he's such a scumbucket when begging for mercy killing which is why she just let him rot.

the brienne/hound fight was maybe the best scene of the season. head punches, ball punches, falcon kicks, ear biting, sword grabbing, and all ending in being punched in the face like a speed bag, right off a mountain cliff. thats a good fight scene ill tell ya. also, brienne sounded like a tennis player volleying shots as she punched him off the cliff.

can someone 'splain me the old man in tree that brandon spoke too.

A little while ago in this threak I was trolling someone or other challenging him to post one example of GRRM employing a Deus Ex Machina in ASOIAF, me having one in mind at that moment.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but the online rage at a certain character's exclusion lends me to believe the show stripped that example I had in mind, which is pretty awesome.

I have to admit I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the cartoony fight between the hound and a woman with the brutal and sort-of-realistic scene where a midget overpowers and strangles a girl.

yeah.

As a viewer you sorta allow yourself to sympathize with the hound a bit, but she's far less gullible.

So to the god tree. I understand the need to compress time in screen development vs. books and thought so far that was going okay. You can see where that is going right fast but I think they need to make it a bit more clear about:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Brynden being the last greenseer and showing him connected to the trees via roots.

The Hound: ignoble for him to be beat by a woman. I know they were trying to humiliate the character but still. There's lots of other folks that could have taken him out.

Arya: fucking little sociopath. Gotta love her.

Stuff at The Wall all made good story telling.

All in all easily the best season finale to date and if this wasn't the single best ep it's in the top three quite easily.

Looks like you need to spoiler some shit too. This is what gives WLBs ammo.
