Good job by the show to get some emotions going towards the characters, most of the time I'm ambivalent towards characters in a show but they've done well in inspiring feelings towards people. I enjoy virtually every scene with Tyrion, Drogo, and Jon/Sam due to the nature of their characters - and on the other hand, every time I see Cersei doing her bitch thing I wish painful death upon her.

Varys is my new favourite.

Sansa was even dumber in the book it seemed. Still by the end I pitied her. Tyrion kicks ass, Bran kicks ass, Robb kicks ass but starting to show some of Ned's dumber qualities by the end has me concerned, Jaime definitely kicks ass. The Queen is okay, sure she's a vile cunt, but didn't seem like she was enough of a vile cunt. Probably b/c I'm comparing her to Atia from Rome. Catelyn and her sister are the ones I hated.

Above all else, the stupidity of teenage girls is the one single constant in this universe - fiction or not. In all seriousness though, every time she says something it makes me all , whether its badmouthing her servant lady or questioning the wisdom of running the fuck away from a massacre in progress. Her sister is just bloody awful. Catelyn turns real interesting around Book 3 IIRC. The Sansa thing, I think her character was made so....weak to provide contrast with Arya, who is pretty much a badass. It's almost like Martin is making fun of the whole "princess" stereotype by making Sansa so annoying. She does get less pathetic later on, but still I never found myself too excited for a Sansa chapter.

Yeah the Sis is terrible, I'd love for Tyrion's goons to overtake the Vale (like that would ever happen, but ya never know). I disliked Catelyn from the beginning for reasons I don't even know. But when she seized Tyrion with no evidence she lost any benefit of the doubt I gave her. Also, Ned's response shouldn't have been "Yeah she took him b/c I ordered her to" but more like "That crazy bitch! Wait until I get my hands on her!" edit: Yeah I know, he had to say he ordered her to, to keep from looking like the Hand can't control his wife edit 2: Oh yeah I just remembered why I didn't like Catelyn from the start, her treatment of Jon.

I just ordered the books from Amazon...that should keep me busy for awhile.

The book is great, and the show does it justice. I've only read the first, and kind of as a companion to the show; somehow I generally stayed one episode ahead in the book the whole time, but it was nice reading the internal dialogue that lead to the characters' actions. Just can't do that in a show without voice over narration, which would totally fuck it up.

How wise were you when you were 15 and had a hard on for the hottest, richest girl in school? Cersei may be considered a bitch, but she's doing a masterful job protecting the interests of her family. I guess you'd want your mom to agree to have your family cast out of your home when she could just as easily make you ruler of it? I think the show has done an excellent job of showing that the one person trying to consider the greater good is getting (so far) royally screwed, without making any other major character detestable (Joffry sucks but what do you expect from a spoiled little rich kid born knowing he would be king oneday). Since the show kind of emulates miedeval times or whatever, I think it's pretty accurate.
