Well, Dinklage is locked in for 5 seasons IIRC, so there's that at least. But yeah, could get expensive to negotiate another contract once that one is up.

IIRC, Rome was hideously expensive and HBO didn't have full control of production, so the decision to kill it was somewhat out of their hands. Carnivale had terrible ratings and uneven (at best) storylines. I don't think those are solid comparisons to the runaway train success of GoT.
That said, if GRRM keeps his current pace of one book per 6 years, HBO could easily kill it rather than keep carrying the expenses of contacts, locations, sets, etc. on the books forever.

Just came here to say that. Being of short stature, you are limited to what roles you can do. Not to mention he is a fan favorite on GoT and would disappoint a lot of people.There's no way they make the show without Dinklage. And Dinklage would be a fool to leave. There isn't going to be a better role for a little person any time soon.
