I just wonder if Arya will have her wolf dream and Nymeria (Arya's Direwolf) will pull Lady Catelyn's body from the river before the Brotherhood comes upon it. They really have undersold the connection b/w the wolves and the Stark children.

Grey Wind should have been around Robb up until his marriage. Summer should be with Bran constantly. Ghost should have been with Jon Snow last season and this up until he climbs the wall, not with the Nightswatch at the Fist of First men and protecting Samwell. Jon should have warged by now, at least in his dreams and that should be the friction b/w him and Orell (conglomeration with Vymar Sixskins
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
yeah, the warging plays such an important role in the books, and promises to play an even more important one inthe future, that it is really strange how much they left it out.

LOL, I did not really think about it but half this thread is spoilered.

I did try to make a book thread but without the weekly push of the TV show is never had enough traction.

For what its worth, most of the spoilered posts are just a massive dorkout.

And to some extent...the spoilered stuff here is all in reference to the TV show. A lot of the spoilered content is "I wonder how they are going to work in this one plot detail since they wrote out this character". I'm sure my friends get a bit too much of the "well, in the book they actually did this" so its nice to be able to come here and react to developments with other people who have also read the books.

I'm sure we will make it back to your book thread in 7 years when a new book comes out and we want to figure out what it all means and hypothesize on where it is going. smile.gif

It won't be long before the show has caught up to the books. And since the producers have discussed with GRRM how the stories are all supposed to play out, and have said that they won't wait for the books to be published, at some point, the show will be a spoiler for the books.

He's going to have to pull so much shit together at the last minute that it would make Dickens' head spin.

Killing people off helps to simplify things. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I'm thinking, for example, of how the Jon Snow storyline is handled in fifth book (and to a lesser extent Quentyn Martell)

Don't assume he's dead forever. We've seen what the Red Priests can do. Melisandre keeps asking to see Azor Ahai reborn in her flames and instead all she sees is Jon Snow. She also says she needs King's blood to wake the dragon from the stone. She needs to burn someone with King's blood. If R+L=J then J has King's blood. She might light a pyre for him and he could be reborn as a dragon, aka Targaryen. None of the prophecies are literal.

I'm pretty sure that's why the producers had an extensive talk with him about where he's planning to go with the next two books. He's definitely not going to finish them in time for the show, and he's probably going to keel over from a massive coronary before he finishes them at all.

Just like Robert Jordan did in Eye of the World series or Frank Herbert's Dune

He's about 1/4 of the way done with Winds of Winter. That said, he spent most of the past three years, since ADwD was completed writing other things like show episodes, side projects, and editing his friends' work. And, almost all of that quarter is the untying of Mereenese knot that he didn't include in ADwD due to length constraints. I expect it will be released in 2-3 years when they are in the first season of AFfC and ADwD or when ADwD is completed onscreen. That means there will be one or two seasons of show left for him to write Dream of Spring. No chance he'll finish a book in two years, so that's when the show overtakes the book series. And, I can't really see him lasting seven more years in his general health. The guy eats lamprey pies every night. The Lord to fat to sit a horse.
