Creepy episode
Not gonna lie, after binging on 2 seasons of GoT and then having to watch it an episode per week, i start to lose track of whose who...and its not as enjoyable.

Joffrey is my favorite character.

ah, bad idea. still, joffrey is beyond fucked up, and little finger too for letting that go down.

The attraction of Varys and Littlefinger is that they do things behind the scenes and have secret plans. The fact that the showrunners bang viewers over the head and have them explain their secret plans to everyone they encounter kind of makes the plans unsecretive and makes the characters seem pretty stupid instead of cunning.

That's quite difficult to accomplish on a TV show, I think. Particularly one with so many characters with compelling storylines. I thought it was a great set up episode. Next week should be awesome.

no WTFs on Gendry?

Rambling thoughts ahead: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I understand why they want him. They need the king's blood and I guess they haven't built up the idea that he's got Edric Storm (and Gendry is a character that people already know) but wtf? The whole meeting in the woods seemed pretty contrived.

I don't buy that the lord of light led her there...we know that she is most likely misinterpreting most of the signs (stannis is clearly not the one) and I doubt that her god would have shown her how to go find Beric's crew. Gendry is supposed to save Brienne in the future...but I guess he really doesn't come into play other than that.

I wonder if this means that GRRM has no future plans for Gendry. If he is going to do anything in the upcoming books, then they might not have sent his character off with Melisande. Edric is sent off into hiding by Davos, so it is possible that Gendry gets sent back to the brotherhood, but I can't see him really wanting to return to them after they sold him off (unless it is staged as the brotherhood rescuing him).

I think they can still work this out to get him where he needs to be, although they seem to have abandoned Rorge and Biter- neither has promised to bugger her or her dead body. Melisandre brings him back to Dragonstone. Davos speaks to Stannis and gets him to be just. What is Stannis if not just. He cannot condemn his brother's son to death without having committed a crime punishable by death. The Onion Knight could remind him by showing him his shortened fingers. Stannis relents and lets Gendry go. Gendry has a winding road back but ends up at the Crossroads Inn with the orphans around the time Brienne gets there. It's protected by the Brotherhood, but by then the Brotherhood is a different beast and nobody remembers Gendry; they only accept him as a smith.

This scenario both gives Davos some good stuff as an honest man; lets Stannis be human; puts Gendry in the right place at the right time; and eventually turns Brienne over to Lady Stoneheart. Gendry has no real value any longer. Unless you are trying to prove that Ser Pounce's owner is not a true Baratheon. But, that ship has sailed, sides have been chose, and the victor will make the decision there.

Well, they need someone's blood soon if Melisandre is going to cast her spell before Balon/Rob/Joffrey start dying.
In the book, doesn't davos send the bastard into hiding outside of westeros against stannis's wishes (which is part of what makes Melisandre want to go north so she can get at Mance's kid's blood)?

I just can't see Gendry going back to the brotherhood, even as they change under Lady Stoneheart. Thoros (though disheartened) and many others are still around, and Gendry clearly had strong feelings about being betrayed. Hence my thought that maybe Davos's plan to spirit him away to safety somehow involves the brotherhood rescuing him back. For the purposes of the TV show, it keeps the brotherhood around and active a little bit more (to stop them from having to keep introducing characters that then disappear).

I was half asleep when I watched it, so why was Sansa crying at the end?

Why is she no longer going to marry Loras?

Line of the night was from the Queen of Thorns. Cannot remember it exactly but something like, "Born sword swallower."

Ah so Sansa really will be marrying Littlefinger? Why then did they have Mother Tyrell snapping the pen?
also, it seems like Littlefinger has left no option for the Tyrells/the Spider/Sansa but to have him killed.

No. Sansa is marrying Tyrion. I'm guessing that ship was probably Loras and Cersei sailing away back to wherever Loras is from. On the pen snapping, she did that so Tywin couldn't write the order to have Loras join the King's Guard signifying that she consents to the marriage of Loras and Cersei.

Oh shoot that's right, Littlefinger is meant to marry the widow of the Aery or whatever it's called.

ok, the perils of watching when I'm half asleep.

Sansa marrying Tyrion can't be the worst thing in the world for her.

It's better than Joffrey, but it keeps her in KL under Tywin's thumb. And she was expecting to be free of the Lannisters and married to man of her dreams Loras.
