OFFICIAL Game of Thrones Thread - Page 113

Relax. The job of the screenwriters is to adapt and edit the books to be effective in a completely different medium. They are doing a fine job of it so far. Characters are omitted, combined, etc... Subplots are removed completely, to fit the t.v. medium, and to get the pacing right, something that fantasy novelists are notoriously poor at anyway. You try for a scene by scene reproduction, and you end up with a disjointed, bloviated mess like The Great Gatsby movie.

Also, this keeps the nerds guessing, which should make it more fun.

Also, it's not worth getting upset over. I like the books but it's not like they're taking characters out of Ulysses here. It's fantasy sci fi, not worth getting all prickly about literary integrity.

... Yknow, outside of LOTR of course.

Damn I want joffrey dead. Also hoping Tyrion lives.

Drunk Cersei, oh how I love you. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

And The Rains of Castamere at the end totally gave me goosebumps.

"And who are you, the proud lord said,
that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear."

Chills.

No, they had to establish it ahead of time or it wouldn't fill you with the sense of dread at the wedding

Agreed, left out the chain, but replaced it with something much less expensive (tradeoff being that it wasn't at all visually impressive) that still showed Tyrion's cunning. Did the battle in the book happen at night? I don't remember.

Okay notwithstanding omissions and details, wow, I really do not think they could have done that any better and still fit it within 1 hour.

I was correct we got more hound but he's a little too serious. There's way less of the sneering asshole and more of the bitter jerk.

I haven't read the books, but he is such an epic and important character, I can't see how he would be killed at this point.

Absolutely. What an amazing and brilliant episode.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Tyrion - superb strategy with the wildfire - his face at the devestation was superb. The speech and leading the men was superb too. What an epic character.

Bronn - excellent scenes and dialogue with Tyrion, the Hound and with the massive bow.

Cersei drunk - what a brilliant villain she makes, so poisonous and bitter, yet you can see her view being sold by Tywin and all that followed with Robert baratheon. I loved how we were made to think the poison could have been for Tyrion after the battle.

The Hound - all bullies are cowards as they say. A man used to always having his size and the odds on his side, and yet redeemed a little by (more probably just trying, now Tywin is there) rescuing Sansa, even if it was in his own self interest.

Stannis - he may be an humourousless bastard but he was hardcore in the battle and rocked in this episode.

^ The song.

Fuzzy spoilerish (Click to show)

It plays somewhat of a part in a part of the story later on.
