Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The renly thing isn't really clear until book 3 (when Loras is mourning), while the stannis thing is really just hinted and speculated at, the book doesn't really confirm that they are fucking.

The chain might still happen. We know wildfire will play a huge role, but they might leave the chain as a surprise.

stanly attacks king's landing with a bunch of ships. they have to go through a narrow canal to reach the castle and the dwarf installs a huge chain that traverses the canal. it's initially hidden and then they hoist it up when the ships cant turn back anymore. ships get stuck and then they burn them all with that dragonfire thingy

This is a huge spoiler for the next 2 eps of the show. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Pretty much throughout the whole 2nd book there are hints that Tyrion is plotting something, presumably at Cersei's expense. He takes all of the blacksmiths in the city off of duty of crafting weapons and armor for the defense force which basically makes him look nuts / like he's sabotaging the defense. A couple of structures are built on the shore near the mouth of the river which grants access to King's Landing but it's not clear why. Ultimately when Davos and Stannis sail in to attack, it turns out that what he's been doing is having the smiths forge a massive chain to span the entire entrance to the river, which they raise up so that the ships can't maneuver or escape. Then when the wildfire hits the ships, the whole fleet essentially lights on fire. The ships end up crashing into each other which just spreads the flame and panic, and all of Stannis's fleet is quickly destroyed. It is basically a massacre.

I think I suggested earlier that they might dump it as it would expansive as hell to shoot. Shame as it really showed Tyrion as not only a clever little fuck, but also a wartime strategist.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

He essentially saves the city.

Perhaps the pigshit reference will amount to something.

They are also whitewashing his character. He was responsible for a lot of deaths - giving the antler men to Joffrey to toss over the wall just to keep him busy. Some odd choices for the characters.

Oh, and the shot of Osha sneaking into the dungeons was bloody lame.

I don't know much about the movie/special effects industry, but it seems like doing the chain wouldn't be much more expensive than, say, putting together all the sets for the ruins of Harrenhall. But I guess we'll see in a few days. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif Either way, they are certainly building this up as an epic battle. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Castle walls are plywood and paint - digital or otherwise. 50 wooden ships with men crashing into each other against a giant chain and burning with green fire would take a little more effort. You notice there hasn't been any huge set pieces yet? Even King's Landing looks pretty small. Hope I'm wrong.

^ Not me. I really hate bad special effects. If they can advance the story with out it I'm happy.
