I think he keeps it pretty tight for the first three books, but the 4th and 5th get way too bogged down in details.

My recollection is that the second was actually the worst, but people are willing to look past it because the third one was so good.

IMO,
3 is a little better than 1, then 2, 5, 4 in order. They're all good though, especially for the genre. No duds in the bunch, which says a lot considering fantasy authors almost invariable phone a few books in.

He needs to reign things in a bit. Tie up some plot lines, focus, bring a few story arcs to fruition...that don't do this through death.

I hear book 9 will introduce lord henrius fordicus and his magical machine that is a predecessor to what we now know as the automobile. Hang in there.

If he lives that long. He likes to go about a decade between books.

We might have a Robert Jordan situation brewing.

Well, the issue is not the difficulty it would take to kill one (although they were some of the most skilled/feared warriors of Drogo's khal), but the fact that the producers/writers changed something from the books (no one gets killed there/like that) that seemed to have no function other than to have some more violence.

Tonight's episode seemed really short, for some reason.

Still the best show on TV. . .

Tonight's episode was swell, imo. Well-condensed and any changes made from the book helped build characters correctly.
