Nespresso Club - Page 60

Whatever the black one is. Appregio?

My mum and dad still have one of the older ones (I have vertuoline), the black one is the only one I drink when I'm at their place.

I think it also depends how you're drinking it though (milk etc.)

Black is ristretto. Purple is arpeggio.

She liked the look of the DeLonghi Citiz better. What makes you say that the Pixie is more energy efficient? They both say 1260 W, couldn't find info beyond that. I'd guess that the components are pretty simlar. Descaling isn't that much of an issue since the water is relatively soft (around 10°dH).

Anyway, tried a bunch of the coffees (and now have tummyache). Decided to get these: 3x Cubania--blind buy, I hope the robusta isn't too strong--, 2x Ristretto/Arpeggio/Roma/Bukeeta ka/Dharkan, 1x Fortissio Lungo and Caramelito & ciocattino for the lulz. And got an Aeroccino3 on top (current "cashback" offer).

Pixie shuts off automatically and also heats up faster.

Not sure about the heat up time (it takes about 22 seconds). The Citiz also has a energy saving mode--it shuts off after 9 minutes, 30 minutes, or not at all.

I have a Citiz and it's failing me.  Water flows around the capsule and it doesn't puncture with the waffle press area.

Did some searches, and regardless of de-scaling and air-bubble 'advice' I'm pretty sure it's a stuck-open pressure release valve.

Reconsidering the nespresso thing...

Sad to say, but I think the best shot of espresso I had during my most recent trip to europe was a shot of arpeggio from the nespresso store in helsinki. Of course I wasn't in prime coffee area (the baltics) and wasn't exactly seeking out good coffee shops, but it made me think.

Is the new machine the way to go? I noticed that they didn't have them in europe (and didn't sound like they were coming considering the store employees lack of knowledge about them)...so I have not yet tried anything from one. The machine looks much larger and more expensive than the pixie...

edit: nevermind. I think my desire has fallen back below my willingness to join myself to a proprietary landfill-destined pod system....maybe the convenience will defeat my moral sensibilities at some future date (potentially the date at which I sample the verturoline system)

Except that the shots are good and consistent precisely because of the proprietary nature (consistency in blends, quality control). I'm not sure I would see the point or convenience of Nespresso if it wasn't for the assurance I get from the Nespresso brand pods. I tried several competitors' pods in France (the system is now open to third party coffee) and wasn't impressed.

Interesting, did not know about the recycling program.

Has anyone tried any of their corporate-style coffee systems? They had them on display in Helsinki, but not for samples.
Looks like they rely on a different pod shape (more of a foil sachet) which seems designed for bulk/automatic loading.

Not sure if it is widely available in the states, but if the coffee is even half as good as the consumer version, I would love to replace our office keurig and flavia machines with one. Those machines make terrible coffee...but sometimes they are still better than the 6 different drip coffees we brew every day (luckily I have a pour over in case someone managed to mis-measure all 6)

Wasn't too pleased with the "corporate-style" system, but it's been a while. They have different kinds of coffee though, IIRC, but Ristretto and Fortisso Lungo, they definitely have.

I am wanting to buy a cappucino, esspresso, latte "one touch" style machine. I have been looking at this delonghi model.

Anyone have any experience with it? Any recommendations in that price range?

That's not a Nespresso machine, is it?

It isnt. This seemed like a thread with lots of coffee maker talk, thought it might be a good place for that question. I guess I will put it in the coffee thread instead.
