I never noticed any improvement when I did the cleaning and it was a PITA so I am in no rush to do it again.

Have you measured it? First of all, hard water doesn't affect the taste. Too soft water does, but chalk doesn't. It does however affect the machine, so it really only depends on your usage and the hardness of the water.

The Nespresso machine is a thermoblock system, right? I've just checked and ThermoBlock systems are very resistant to chalk since the "pipe" where the water gets heated always gets emptied after the shot is pulled so the precipitated chalk can't really build up. Any info?

I always turned mine off. Only costs energy. The thermoblock doesn't need much time to heat up.

Anybody get that invitation for this limited edition Lungo that is being released? If it is anything like their regular ones it will be awful I am sure.

Do you know the name of it? I went to the Nespresso boutique yesterday in Toronto and picked up a sleeve of Linizio Lungo. Never seen it before and can't find it online. Will try it later.
