I've only had this a couple of months but now I'm not sure how I ever lived without it. I never thought I could enjoy coffee out of capsules like this, but it's quite good. The only minor quibble I have is that I wish the froth could get a bit frothier (for my wife, I only drink the espresso, sometimes coffee). The supply doesn't bother me at all. It's not that expensive, and it doesn't get any more convenient than three clicks and it shows up in your mailbox the next day.

As with anything, there will be people who take the practice to an extreme, but that doesn't invalidate what they're doing. The serious coffee people do what they do because they care about the end product --- everything else is done to serve that product. The rest of your post is silly.

And here is why Nespresso is not that great: the crema is ridiculous, almost exaggerated. The coffee itself is overextracted, has no depth, complexity, or much of an aftertaste. It's basically a bitter cup of strong coffee.

I just had a rather half-assed espresso at lunch. Don't know from what machine it was made.

If it was too bitter (a common problem with restaurant espressos), a tiny pinch of salt will help it quite a bit.

When did Miele start making Nespresso machines? Never seen that beast before. All this bickering is an exercise in futility. The people who enjoy the convenience + quality will love Nespresso. The coffee dorks who must have everything dripped from the top of a donkey's back into their cup (isn't this how Blue Bell does it?) or measured down to the last micron will hate it. Personally, having to the ability to get a great Americano in the morning, when I'm still half asleep, by just popping in two caps and boiling some water on the side (another fantastic invention - the electric kettle) cannot be beat. Nor can getting a great espresso shot whenever I want it with no mess and no fuss. The web ordering system, and next day delivery (there is a distribution hub in Tallahassee), only solidifies its quality in my mind. Now, if I happen to find a wonderful espresso place some day (probably not going to happen since Florida is a coffee wasteland), I'll gladly spend some money there. But I'm not going through all the hassle of buying all that equipment and worrying about all that mess. After this, **** that.

I don't know, I think I've seen them around high-end appliance stores for several years. It's a great option if you want a built-in.

Looks swanky. I've got the same 3 varieties of caps as you do oddly enough. While I'm talking about coffee here, has anybody tried the new special edition that just came out?

They're nice machines, but I can't help but think it looks really off next to the deep stained cabinets, the faux painting and, and please correct me if the eyes deceive, some sort of (faux?) fur window covering.

Haha, funny. I got this welcome package and tried them all, those were my 3 favs and the only ones I ordered on the recent restock. I'd be curious about the new special edition as well.

Those are hand plastered walls, and the window covering is shimmery, although not fur (but that would be balllin). Please insult my home in the SF Cribs thread, so they will not disrupt the nespresso bashing and can be read in conjunction with the other insults. There are some pics of the full kitchen, should provide you a lot of other details to make fun of. Thx.

Excuse my ignorance. These are flavor swatches?

Haha, well, in a sense I suppose. These are the actual capsules representing the entire range of their standard offerings. They have some sort of welcome package for new customers where they send some of everything they make, together with a book explaining all of the varieties and this cheezy wooden box to display them.

Every flavor has its own color. In the sampler, like above, they show a color coded circle to better help people choose. Its mostly something you pull out for guests and let them play with. Each machine comes with one cap of each flavor so you can try them all. That setup above costs $50.

Really? I never would have purchased the box, they sent that as a welcome gift.

The new flavor (Onirio) is quite good. It's delicate and flowery, so if that is up your alley give it a try. The pearl white color of the pod is nice, too.

Re: the foam. We have the Citiz machine and use the Aerochino-thingy for frothing and it works pretty well. You can get a mighty stiff foam from it with the right amount of button pushing.

Also, +1 to nespresso. I adore a fine espresso but have very little interest in developing the barista skills necessary to produce it at home
