New Mini Cooper Countryman - Page 2

I like the original car, but if the car's raison d'etre is its smallness (Mini), I sorta question making bigger and bigger versions...

My parents had the original version of this--the Mini Clubman. It wasn't the worst car ever to come out of British Leyland, but it came pretty darn close... And it had some stiff competition! No idea what the new incarnation is like, though!

Too much money for that car. But if it trips your switch go for it.

It looks cool, but it is dog-ass slow. If you want something in this range that actually moves like it isn't dragging a boat anchor behind it, I suggest an STi.

It's really weird, I thought the same thing until i test drove mine. Granted, it's not nearly as planted as my CTS was but it is deceptively sturdy. wide stance and a low center of gravity help it out quite a bit. I live in Dallas though, so my main worry is the random jackass in his lifted F150 or RAM who thinks side mirrors are for pussies and changes lanes with reckless abandon.

Minis have VERY loud horns, just FYI.

oh god... i feel you about dallas drivers. i feel like i'm about to shit in my pants at least once a month because of those assholes. it's only a matter of time...

i was planning on buying it but at 40k.. might just get something else.

All of the reviews I've read said that it takes everything fun about a mini and makes it un-fun.

A bigger Mini just seems counter intuitive.

Any more recent reviews/thoughts from SF owners of CMs? My wife drives a Clubman S and loves it, but with two kids now it's too small.

She's been looking at the AWD Countryman Ss, and all tricked out it comes to only about 37K which I consider very reasonable for a good car. I'm a BMW guy, so have a soft spot, but we're also looking at LR4s, RR Sports, and Cayennes. I know, all over the place. Fun, cool, and practical are the three main considerations.

$37K is a lot. Dunno if you can do a RWD-only car but I'd rather an AMG E63T wagon of either generation over a Cayenne or RR Sport, anyday. No other car could achieve 'fun, cool, and practical' the way an E63T would, and it seems mileage or price aren't major considerations based on your short list....

I'm not going to buy one, but I'll admit they look pretty cool. Plus I bet I could fit all my sports gear in the back!

Ugly, overweight and underpowered and too big.  Now, a JCW mini would be fun!
