On average, how often do you get the full blown flu? - Page 3

I'm more of a strep throat type guy, get that at least once a year and sometimes twice. I think I've gotten the flu once at university, and I had it twice in high school. However, I've tussled with some other random illnesses (laryngitis, norwalk (worst day of my life,) tonsilitis) in that 8 year or so period. I'd say my resistance to illness is probably quite average, with a propensity for short term throat ailments. FWIW, I've had the flu shot 4-5 times, and was only sick once on a year where I had gotten it. I'm a strong supporter of vaccination, if your insurance covers it there is no reason not to get it!

I've always been aware that I've been an extreme outlier for that sort of thing and there are a number of factors that play into why that I won't get into.

Ahh, so yours isn't the sick-for-two-days type "flu" that everyone else gets? Apologies for jumping to conclusions.

As far as I know, flu is only present in most regions a few times a year so you must be getting it almost every time. That's also worthy of a .

Not really like a BURST though, more like a slow rupture, I couldn't tell when it happened.

Can't afford to get sick

Once in 51 years. It was rough.

I was about 15 years old. I have a hard time believing that some of you get actual influenza once or twice a year.

guess i'm lucky or something

Never once.

I get sick 2-3 times per year. I'm also incapable of getting really good sleep, which I think plays a pretty big role.

once in the last 10 years maybe.

A full blown cold with fever and sore throat, once every 2 years and I'll literally be bed ridden for 3 days straight without energy to do anything. I don't take flu shots either.

I've had it about 3 times in my life. The first time was awful and I was out for about 6 days.

I really dont get sick very often. When I first feel that I might become sick, I take a bunch of vitamins, use the sauna, and sleep very very well.

I've gotten the flu shot every year (provided free at work) and never gotten it since I was a kid. My entire family got it this year and I was fine. First time I ever knew the shots were working and absolutely worth it.

I'd say once a year, though that average is probably skewed by the fact I spent the last four years in college...close quarters and shared beer cups tend to spread things easily. I think I actually had swine flu this year -- I was pretty ill and bedridden to the point that I actually fainted when I left my apartment and waited in line for takeout at a restaurant.

When I lived in the dorms, I seem to catch everything that everyone had, which was constant sickness. Allot of the kids in the dorm's practice no hygiene, and were sick and got those around them sick all the time. When I moved to my own place without a roommate, I never get sick it seems.... With out others around and a with out a roommate, I seem to never get sick. Totally worth the increased rent.
