Because a pocket is utilitarian, a lot of folks like to leave them off dress shirts - even if they wear the shirts to work. It basically says, I'm not so caught up with my job that I need to have a pen in my shirt pocket at all times. Not having a pocket shows a kind of elegant nonchalance.

Certainly. Why not?

On casual fayre, maybe, but pockets on a dress shirt are awful.

If you need somewhere to put your pen, look to your jacket.

Ok, now I am more informed about pockets. I'm always learning something new on this forum.

The one thing no one has answered deals with the yoke size. Will decreasing the shoulder measurement reduce the yoke?

Thanks.

It goes everywhere and you never have to worry about ruining your shirt or suit, as you probably will never put it away without replacing the cap. Custom shirts are supposed to be luxe. Leave the pocket to the guys who wear pocket protectors.

First of all, you cannot go wrong with Jantzen's shirts. I think that he does the best work. As for your shirt, I see no problem with the yoke but agree that the sleeves need to be lengthened by an inch or so. Also, I would have had it with a more snug fit around the stomach since the shirt stays in place more. Otherwise, a nice shirt.

Pft. I know I'd never buy an Oxford button down collar without a pocket.

I also just received my first Jantzen this week(after only about 2.5 months waiting). The fit is way off, but I am blaming myself for mis-measurement. I measured a shirt I had MTM in thailand that fit very well, but I think it is better to measure my actual body instead for the next round.

Unfortunately the sleeves are both a little too short and the cuff way too tight for it to be serviceable. I was also going for the much discussed "mid-length" that allows for both tucked and untucked wearing and that was a bit disasterous as well.

I was very happy with the construction and the detailing though. After washing I will post some pics. It was Stripe #447 by the way with an italian 2-button high collar. I think I may have just tried to add too many bells and whistles and the resulting conglomerate and the poor fit just isn't going to work. I chalk it up to a learning experience and a small price to pay once the fit and the preferences are all dialed in. I am excited to reorder, especially with all this talk of a cocaine fueled Jantzen workshop and 2 week turnaround times!

the shirt is nice, hard to tell the fabric texture from that pic. I have no problem with the pocket if you wear it to work. For an evening out on the town, I'd lose the pocket.

The sleeves look a little short and the yoke too big. The bigger yoke makes your shoulders look more slouchy. Also to get a real feel for the sleeve measurements, you'll need to button that top collar since it will bring the fabric up a bit more.

I think I will try Jantzen shirts as well. I had problems with custom made shirts before. I ordered two at once, one was okay, little small on the collar, the other was choking me and the sleeves were about as short as yours are now.

Have a tailor measure you. As a rule of thumb I always add an extra inch or two to the sleeve measurement to be sure when I put my jacket on that the cuffs poke out a little. I always like to show a little too much cuff than none at all. If the sleeves turn out to be too long its easier to either make them button tighter at the wrist or have the sleeves shortened.

Of course you can! I was not overly impressed by the workmanship of my jantzen shirt.

Yeah, but an oxford button down collar shirt is an inherently more casual shirt and pockets are fine on casual shirts.

I suppose you could say that, but I'd wear them with a suit. mumbojumbo: I suggest you actually tell us what the problems with it were. Many forum members here have bought from Jantzen and also very high end makers and not had much to gripe about comparing the two. Additionally, you should always seek to have a problem fixed. Ricky would surely listen.

Nor would I, but the difference is I would never wear it with a suit and tie.

Always these rules about what shirt is appropriate with what... I just go by what looks good with what.
