Something that has worked for me is a breakfast of plain oatmeal and black coffee.
During the day I drink a lot of water and try to hold calories to 1000 or so and a daily workout.

I don't think I'd have the energy to workout on a thousand calories a day. That's a pretty severe diet.

LOL I don't run marathons or anything-just daily exercise. Last January I was 196 lbs with a 40 waist and am now 145 lbs with a 34 waist. I can buy a suit off the rack-feel good-and cheat on the 1000 calories a little once a week or so. I'm happy.

There's no difference in calories burned for jogging 2.5 mph for two hours vs 5 mph for one hour, you went 5 miles in either case. Same distance, same weight, same calories burned. The only reason we prefer to run faster, in terms of calorie burning, is that it takes a lot less time to run the same distance if you're going faster.

It's the fact that running is far less efficient than walking.

I was trying to avoid the running vs walking issue by focusing on just running at different speeds, but yeah.

What I meant was thermodynamically - there is a conversion of chemical energy into work done, resulting your movement from A to B, with some waste as 'heat'. Walking is a much more efficient process, so that more of your chemical energy goes towards actual displacement.
